Importance of Content

For the longest time I feel as though I have waisted a lot of time working on my site on things thta don't really matter. it's not that they don't really matter but they can be done later and I just can't seem to take my focus of them.
In the process of trying to build the "perfect" site, I have changed the theme of my site about 8 times already. Every time I add more content, I find myself removing the existing theme and installing a new one. I am so caught up with the fact that I want the site to look nice when my focus should be on the importance of content.
I have been constantly adding original content that is very valuable and will attract plenty of attention. But I have failed to understand that it is so important to add more content now and tweak the little details later. I have struggled with this for days and it should not take me a week to decide on a theme of my website and how it's going to look.
I failed to remember that what I'm trying to offer my visitors is quality content that answers their questions and meets their needs. My main focus should be to provide more fresh content on a daily basis with valuable information that they seek everyday. I know that the importance of content is something that I should focus on because it brings added value to my site and more traffic.
I didn't realize this until about two weeks ago. After I began to add more content, I began to feel good about my site and the appearance didn't matter so much. Yes, I do still care about the appearance and strive for the best but it's not at the top of my list.
Not saying that I'm superior or anything at all.....but when I did my work, I felt like God. I saw all that I created and I felt good about it. lol I don't pride myself in having all the answers and for being the only reason behind my success because I truly value all the opinions and input of all the members here at WA. I know that if it were not for the many training modules and wabinars going on here, I wouldn't be as far as I am.
So from now on, when I create a new site, I will keep in mind that the importance of content is gonna be a big thing that I keep on my mind at all times. I will continue to focus on building my site and adding more content as often as I can. Content is Key!

It is hard to know what projects waste time and which will actually lead to something productive. We are all extremely visual and that’s why the focus on the way the site looks is important. Content is important too. But, it is also the most difficult to achieve; much more difficult than changing the theme.

One thing that I am certain of is that good content comes from within. Try this: free write for 15-20 minutes on anything! If you can’t think of anything to write, just write “I can’t think of anything to write,” then write something else… The free writing breaks down barriers to the unconscious. If this works for you then just use a prompt such as your Keyword or phrase as your starter. Put that at the top of your page. Now set the timer for 15 minutes and write whatever comes into your head. Some say not to correct errors. However, if I left my writing the way it came out I would not understand it. I make way too many errors (typing on the computer that is—if you are writing with a pencil, then maybe just keep going), so I must correct as I freewrite.

The thing is that your unconscious is filled with content, and this is one way to tap it. At the end of your free writing you should have something to work with. And, you will know what information you will need to find to add the necessary details to your post or page (what further research you must do to complete your content).

If freewriting doesn’t work for you, you have only wasted 15-20 minutes. HOURS go by surfing around on the internet searching, searching, searching. If you are a seeker, seek from within, it may save you some time.

Although the theme of your WordPress site is important, creating quality content can make you feel God-like (or at least give you a natural high), and you won’t feel like you are wasting time.

Wow. Thank you. I love that idea and I'm definitely gonna put it to use. That would be so helpful to me. Will save some time. I really appreciate it.

This sounds like a great tactic. I'm gonna try it.

I have the same problem. All over the weekend I was agonising over the best theme to use for my new website. I'm a very visual person and must admit I am influenced by an attractive site, but then I realised I never stay long on a website if there's nothing of interest to read as well. So many thanks for the very timely advice. Content first, then go back to the overall impression

awesome advice I really needed to hear this.
Thank you

Impact on your site is ephemeral. If you add some nice pictures to get your reader excited, that goes a long way toward making your site presentable. You are right though ultimately, they are there for what you have to say and not how it looks.

Keep up the good work. Remember, you don't have to leave things alone. Adjusting, tweeking and enhancing are all things that can be done any time.

I like to leave something alone and let it marinate for a bit then come back with fresh eyes and revisit things. I think this adds value above and beyond the original.

Thanks for that tip. I'll use that in the future and let it simmer a bit before I return to add more.

Nic epost :)

Thank you

I can totally relate, it happened to me too. And like you, I had to make myself understand that content takes priority over appearance in the early stages. Content is indeed key!

I completely understand. We all like to look at nice things. However, I have been to the worst looking sites ever, looking like they were made with HTML in 1995, and the content is great. So I would say stick to the content for now, and then jazz it up.

Haha. Omg. Thank you for the advice.

one example is craigslist ;-)
