The reason I write this article is to help new people and discuss with them what they need to build a good website. When I looked at their website. I do not enjoy telling people that their websites are no good, but sometimes I have to do it. I took the risk of being hate, but someone has to tell them the truth. Sorry, back to the subject.

The elements of a good website:

1. It has to look good when it first come up on your screen. This is the first impression to your visitors. You only have one chance, if your website looks bad, there is a high possibility they will leave immediately. How do you make it look good?

  • some images
  • a colored logo
  • a attention grabbing title and tagline

You need all of these. You can build your own header image easily. Just use Paint in Windows. First, find out what size of header image you need. Then create it in Paint, get some image you like and paste it on. You can go to Cooltext.com and get some nice looking text for your Title and tagline.

Here is an example from my website. It is very easy to do; or you can tell your kids to make one for you.

2. In your post or page you need to write something to attract their attention. Yesterday, I surfed the website of Jon1908; she asked me to review her website. There is something that she did and I thought it was brilliant.

She said, "I lost $6000! - How You Can prevent this"

It got my attention, I wants to know why you she lost $6000. So I continue to read her story. She must have learn it from marketing course - just a guess.

You can visit her website: http://earningwealthonline.com Look at her website and leave her a comment if you can. She has an image for every post and it looks good.

She has quite a few good elements:

  • different color text
  • good attention grabbing titles
  • good images
  • good website layout

She could still improve and make it better, but she has all the basics already. Think about it yourself, could you do the same with your website? Or could you do better?

If you have some good ideas, tell Jon - I am sure she will like your feedback.

This is what you need to learn, some marketing vocabulary.

3. Give your visitors what they need

I reviewed one website yesterday, it was promoting WA. In one paragraph, she has the words "building website" 5 times.

Yes, we do build websites. But we are not in a business of building websites (it is the job of website building companies), we are in the business of affiliate marketing. You are in marketing business. When you promote WA, you are marketing WA.

You tell your visitors all about building website will not get them interested, they wants to make money.

To do marketing, you have to tell your visitors, what benefits do they get if they join WA, you can mention building website, but you don't need to say too much about it.

Tell them the benefits they get when they join WA, examples:

  • a business that will make money
  • a work from home opportunity
  • a good lifestyle
  • their own business

I am sure you can come up with more benefits.

I think that is enough for the moment. I will give you a bit more next time.

Cheers,

MisterWailor

Thanks for the advice, I will now try to incorporate more visuals in my site, I'm still learning, but then aren't we all.

You are welcome.

Great post and I totally agree because I myself when searching for something and hit a website that looks terrible I just leave.I try to make sure mine stay clean and friendly......I will be always improving!

Thanks for the comment. Keep up the good work.

I agree with cubandane! Pictures are a very important part of a blog, they can even buy you time, as browsing visitors take a look!

I agree with you.

Thank you Stephen for this excellent article. Illustrations and images are my thing and I agree, a website without them is so bland. Also I am wondering why so many posts and blogs are written with such small font sizes? I have to go Ctrl+ to read them. Nothing like a good easy to read font size and style to make you want to read.

Thanks for the comment. I agree with you, some people use very small
fonts and is hard to read.

Thanks for the article, a lot of good insights. I will definitely be adhering your advice, thanks again.

You are welcome. Have a good day.

Excellent post Stephen...your points are basic, but so vital in getting off on the right foot. They cannot be over emphasized...thank you.
