Why I am Removing "Should" from my Vocabulary
The next time you are feeling like you should do something, reframe that "should" to "get to".
Examples: I should do the dishes vs. I have dishes! I get to do them!
I should lose weight vs. I get to decide if I go to the gym today.
I should get started on that project vs. I get to use my knowledge and expertise to do something important.
I should save more money vs. I get to use my money however I see it needs to be used.
You see, "should" is a social construct. "Should" is judgey. "Should" is nagging."Should" is an external pressure put on you by everything outside yourself. "Should" is rarely fun.
"I get to" on the other hand is liberating. It is valuing your own self worth. "Get to" feels like a choice I want to make rather than something I do not want to do. "Get to" is a concious effort to be grateful for having a choice.
I get to make an amazing website. Later I get to make a video (possibly of this little pep talk!)
I get to make this blog post so I can share it with all of you. Try it for a day. You will be amazed at how much easier and more full of gratitude you are for everyday things.

Great post. We tend to 'should' all over ourselves, creating more stress than we need. Thanks for sharing this. Christine
