Buying a domain

I hope this helps some people if they had similar problems as I.

I began creating my website via siterubix through WA. I had my about me and privacy policy all written out. Then I decided to purchase my domain from NameCheap.com before I got too much farther. I watched Kyles video How to Transfer a SiteRubix Website To Your Own Domain. Very informative. I followed along with the video step by step. At the end of the video Kyle refreshes his screen and his SiteRubix name changed to his own domain.

I tried this as well. Uh-oh. Can't display webpage error.

I thought what did I do wrong? I followed along step by step. I tried everything. I changed the DNS setting on namecheap over and over again to the same correct settings that I already had. I created a discussion asking what was wrong. Then since I didn't have very much of the webpage done yet, I even went as far as deleting the page and starting over by trying to Build My Website straight to the new domain. Nothing was working. Then, the AWESOME Wealthy Affiliate community jumped right in to help me try and figure it out. The crazy thing was that others could see the website, but I couldn't. What the HECK! I was getting more and more frustrated by the minute. A vast majority advised me to just wait. Some told me to submit a support ticket. I actually did both. It bothered my all night long, wracking my brain as to what I did wrong to make it not work.

The next morning I woke up and checked my website. Lo and behold it was operational! WOO HOO!! I felt like doing cartwheels. After the elation wore off, I finally calmed down and got to work on typing out my content. I still have a long way to go, but I did get a lot accomplished.

The moral of the story is, PATIENCE! I definitely need to work on that one myself. If I hadn't panicked and jumped the gun, I wouldn't have wasted time rewriting my pages because I foolishly deleted them in an attempt to regain access to my page.

I sincerely hope that more new comers to Wealthy Affiliate read this and avoid the same mistakes that I make. If it isn't working, check the DNS settings at the place you bought your domain name from. If they are correct, then just chill out and wait for a few hours before checking again. It could very well take up to 24 hours.

To any of you that I may have annoyed with my panic mode, I apologize. Thank you for you being patient with me even though I wasn't being patient myself. I now know for next time and I will do my best to teach other new comers the lessons that I learned the hard way.

Best wishes,

Rob

Great Rob, I understand your frustration but this was a good share for the new people coming here.

Yeah, patience has a big role and we need to exercise that within us. Glad it worked out.

Hi Rob, good post. Yes patience is important on working and learning here. I flew by on the first couple courses on this but the third one is taking a bit of time. I have been tweaking my site a bit as well aside from balancing the family life and here, I know as long as you are persistent with being patient you will reach your goal. I hope you are making more progress on this.

Patience is indeed a virtue! It's hard though, we all know. You get so excited to get to the next step and waiting is NOT what you want to do when the creative juices are flowing all over the place!

Thanks for sharing your journey Rob!

Glad it worked out for you, Rob! Patience is sometimes hard to use when you are exciting in this kind of business.

I am glad it worked for both of you, I had same problem too, I had learn the same way you do, delete every thing and start over, until I ask Kyle on live chat, so he just take about 3 minutes and work.

Hi Rob...You are right...patience is a virtue not to be underestimated. Thanks for a great post. *Melanie*

Ohhh I had to play the waiting game as well. It was like waiting for my mom to come out of open heart surgery.. I was freaking out; well, as much as I can anyway- im usually pretty chill. But what a terrifying experience! Patience is the key, like baking brownies. A lesson i too have had to learn. Glad it worked out.. For both of us!
