3 Practical Tips to Overcome Writer's Block
Let me preface this post by saying Kyle goes over this pretty well in Level 2, Lesson 3 of the Online Entreprenuer Certification training. So, I recommend checking that out if you haven't already. I have also found previous posts on this topic by other WA members that are very helpful as well. With that out of the way, I'm going to share a few tips that work for me to overcome any sort of writer's block.
Tip # 1 - Outline your Writing
The first step is coming up with your article title and subsequent headings. You would formulate the idea for your title from the Keyword research that should've been done beforehand. Like Kyle has mentioned before, you're going to want your keywords in your article's title and preferably somewhere in the introductory paragraph.
As for your headings, brainstorm a list of main ideas that are tied to the topic that you're writing about and order them accordingly. After you've created the article title and headings, you now have the general layout for the direction your writing is going to go. Outlining your writing gives it structure and organization that to me, makes the next step a whole lot easier.
Tip # 2 - Just start Writing
A technique that some may be familiar with called free writing is where you just write with disregard for spelling and grammar. This is going to be raw, unedited content that is being poured out from your mind onto that blank white page on your computer screen. Grab a cup of coffee and sit up straight and start writing.
The intent here is to just get around any mental barriers that are holding you back from completing that article. Write the first thing that comes to mind and use the Headings as sort of a map to guide your ideas. Like I said, at this point we're not worried about the finer details. This is just a rough draft that can be edited later...which leads me to the next step.
Tip # 3 - Step away if you have to
If you still feel stuck...take a break. Go outside and get some fresh air. Go for a walk or a jog. Go to the gym for 30 minutes or so and get in some exercise. The point is to get away from your laptop and come back renewed and hopefully with some fresh ideas. Honestly, there is some correlation between exercise and unleashing creativity. Well hope this helps.
Best Regards,
Mike
