Multilingual plugins didn't work so I used subdomain instead
Hi dear WA friends,
I just want to fill you in with the latest news about my struggle with creating bilingual website.
I tryed different plugins like Polylang, Gtranslate, and a third one (I forgot it's name). Non of them worked.
So I decided to change the strategy. I created a subdomain. Now I simply insert the text I want translated into Google translate. It does pretty good job, but still needs to be corrected. I do corrections myself, right there in Google translate. It is great because you can see the original text right next to translated text, which makes job easier.
When you are done, click copy button on the bottom under translated text and copy it into your page or post.
My original website on English is www.marketingwithlambert.com, and I made Croatian (hrvatski - HR) version on the subdomain www.hr.marketingwithlambert.com.
I hope this was useful to someone.
Mia

Hi Mia,
this is very useful. Thanks! I'm trying to do the same.
Originally started creating site in Spanish and then branched out to English with a subdomain, but one of those at the end, e.g. sitename.com/en/blogposttitle.
I've been advised that it would be better for me to do it as es.sitename.com and en.sitename.com.
I'm just wondering with your rankings and traffic metrics, how have you found it just having hr.marketingwithlambert and not the en.marketingwithlambert as well?
Thanks
I started with English website www.marketingwithlambert.com. At one point I was inspired to write an article on Croatian to see how will my facebook audience react. They reacted much better, so I was stuck with one Croatian article on English website, which was silly. At that point I understood I needed to write on Croatian language as well. Unfortunately, non of the multilingual plugins worked so I just added a subdomain www.hr marketingwithlambert.com. I keep these two as separate websites.
I don't have much traffic, beside WA friends who are leaving comments, and few Croatian friends who are checking my Croatian website.
I just checked the title of my Croatian article and it was second position on first page in google which is great.
When I look for website title Marketing with Lambert, it is 7th and 8th position on first page, but Marketing s Lambert (the title of Croatian website on subdomain) is on a second page. But like I said, Croatian articles rank high on first page.
Right now, I don't care much about that. I'm not finished translating from my English website. I still need a lot of content.
