To Google Ad or Not To Google Ad - That is the Question!

I got thinking the other day about Google Ads.

Do you add them to your site or not?

I guess the secret is to halt thinking like a blogger, for a moment and think like a visitor.

As a reader of sites (and my goodness, I could read the net all day every day and do very little else) I tend to shy away from sites where there are lots of google ads.

I shall explain.

My dad has been running his photography blog for about 15 years now and gets around half a million visitors a month. Mostly direct ones (dad doesn't do social media) yet when he started putting on ads to his site, his visitors fell off the board.

He worried, of course. All dads do from time to time. He wondered what on Earth he had done wrong.

He found that his readers didn't like the ads. Why not? He asked. Well, I guess they think you're trying to sell to them instead of telling them about the Red Kites you saw last weekend or how your favourite Falcon chick is doing at the conservancy.

Oh, he said. So he removed them, and this got me thinking.

When do you add ads?

We all want to create some income, but what we really need to be doing is giving our readers the attention and respect they deserve, yes? They want to be entertained, educated and loved first, and then sold to second.

So I would like to put it to you, my fellow WA's here and ask you how you feel about Google Ads. Are they with us or against us?

I agree with your blog. Ads can be a pain especially if there not that good. I finally got approved by google adsense and am struggling with the type of ad and where to put it. I think too many will scare people off like your Dad found out. Your blog was very informative got me to think more about ads. Personally, I think ads cheapen a website. When I see too many on a website, I try to leave asap!

To be honest l am no fan of ads. I respect the thing your father did. Hope you will be successfull. Best of luck.
