Education on environment

Environmental Education came into existence because of some factors which raised awareness and the need for people to take action to preserve the earth and its resources. ( Palmer and Neal 1996). The factors include the threat of destruction of the ozone layer by CFC''s chemicals , deforestation,exhaustion of the world's finite resources, contamination of water in rivers, seas, poisoning of the soil by use of fertilizer ways of dumping waste and the issue of nuclear plants. Effects of these factors would results in problems like global warming, loss of plant and animal species

The education about the environment create values that make people to value its components, change attitudes towards environment and make them feel concerned about its problems which endanger our lives, to give individuals basic skills to enable them to solve environmental problems. Individuals should also have the ability to evaluate, that is know that if the ozone layer is destroyed by CFC's toxic gases it will let the ultra heat reach the earth causing global warming which will results in heavy floods,cyclones which in some continents will mean loss of lives and property damages as it is now in some parts of America, Japan, Philippine, Mozambique, Australia and many more.

The individuals and social groups are to be aware that their actions are critical in the problems of the environment. Moyo(( 1996:46) maintains that even though mankind is the component of the environment the study emphasizes atmospheric seas, oceans,fresh water land and land variables for their own survival and development. The environment al education emphasises the facts which could make it a success. The facts would be through making people to know the totality of the environment, its components and how humans and animals are related to them, make them feel concerned for it and there after would be able to identify causes of its problems,find some ways of preserving and protecting it using the skills and knowledge gained through education.
