How to Successfully Monetize Social Media

Last Update: May 03, 2019

Ways to make money has certainly changed in the past few years.

If you really think about it, every day a new niche appears which may just be a smaller aspect of something much larger. I often think how great it would be to have had all these tools when I was younger. When I say tools I mean social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest and the list goes on.

Back then life was simple. Income options were limited. Who would have guessed you could ever shop without leaving your home and all from a little gadget called a smart phone. Now the consumer market is huge since most people can have access to whatever they want.

But, having all these great tools has a dark side too. It’s called the shiny object syndrome and if you have it you won’t find success anywhere. At one point or another we all encountered it and maybe that’s how we ended up here together at the WA.

We all have interests and passions. We all have one topic we can talk endlessly about. With that in mind find the one thing that really interests you and are passionate about, latch on to it and don’t let it go. Stick with it. Once you’ve done that follow some these tips to help build your business and you will find success.

  1. Understanding Your Audience.
Building a relationship with your audience is key. You need to know them and understand their needs and desires in order to connect with them. The number of followers you have is less important than caring for each and every one of them. If you care about them they will care about you. Build their trust and you’ll be able to build your business and profit.
  2. Know Their Desires.
If you have ever watched the TV series Lucifer, in every episode Lucifer uses his hypnotic power to ask a person what they desire. The answers are sometimes hilarious! Lucifer gets into their minds and you need to do the same with your audience. Find out what empowers them, makes them feel good and what motivates them. The idea is to become an authority and build trust with your audience.
  3. Post Quality Content.
Many of the social media platforms began as a fun way to stay connected with family and friends. But, these platforms are so much more than that. Use them correctly and you can create a successful business. When posting content it’s crucial to post something of value to your readers. Post thought provoking content because in essence you are educating them. By doing this consistently you are fulfilling their cravings and ultimately you will become a trusted advisor.

One last thing to sum it all up and that is the importance of "Building a Brand". Imagine the business term, “three-legged stool”. It’s a term used in many areas such a financial planning where you have pensions, social security and personal savings. The idea being, if one part is taken away you won’t end up broke. Same thing in business.

The idea here is to understand your audience, know their desires and post quality content to satisfy their needs. Once you have those three parts focus on building your brand in order to achieve long term success no matter what happens. Your followers will follow you wherever you go even if you change social media platforms. I guess you could say building a brand is like the final topping on a cake.

There’s no doubt that becoming an authority in your niche and building a brand is a lot of work and takes a lot of time but it’s something very rewarding and so worth it! After-all, that's why we are here.

Mike, you are so, so right about the evolution of technology and development in our lifetime, When I was younger I was AMAZED when they invented a home telephone that you could walk around with, no more curly cord holding us back... :D

To say things move so, so quickly now is a massive understatement. As you say this also brings ENORMOUS opportunities of the kind we could not have even foresaw in part.

I am extremely grateful for these SM tips, this is an area that I am intrigued by, after all, why not go to where the people are rather than waiting for them to arrive?

I am currently glancing at my ONE legged stool whilst realizing things need to change. Thanks for the fresh perspective and insight.

I read elsewhere that you are now beginning to reap the rewards for the time/effort you have invested thus far, such a shame that the majority of people assume that is a system you can short circuit in order to rush at the doors of success with a battering ram.

I hope 2020 sees you ramp up your achievements massively my friend, hope to cross paths with you many times along the way :)

Steven.

Thank you Steven! Yes, I did recently launch a product on which I had been working on for many months. It was so exciting to see those first sales. Unfortunately, my highly anticipated product launch during Thanksgiving week was a flop but the New Year is fast approaching. Looking forward to another launch next year.

Flop? That sounds like it needs rebranding as a useful learning and an exercise in practical product launch protocol ;)

Imagine the time you will save not doing it exactly the same way next time ALSO I would imagine you have created more products and made more sales than the vast, vast majority of the planet my friend.

You clearly took ACTION that is among the greatest skills on Earth and one that is extremely under utilized by us humans.

Your actions have inspired me already, your tips caused me to ponder my strategies going forward.

Incredibly grateful you are among our number my friend, mega-success is probably a lot closer than you realize right now, take great care and always celebrate just how far you've traveled already :)

I totally agree 💯% . As I said previously in a message to you. I look forward to learning more about how you put everything together. This is by far certainly some of the most important things to learn. Maybe you should do a training course on this?

I have a following of 4000 people so far on Facebook and am now focusing on Instagram. I have purchased some great books on how to create a great Instagram community that trust's you. I want to be an authority that is trusted and loves my stories of the adventures I tell and photagraphs I take.

As you said if your followers trust you they will follow you anywhere. I am seeing that happen now with Instagram.

Thank you for sharing. I look forward to seeing your training post's.

You've got a great FB following! I only have about 190 following my FB camping posts but it only gets organic traffic for my own fun.

Funny, I was asked to do a B2B Copywriting Course recently for a company. I unfortunately don't have the time for that but putting some training together here on the WA would be fun! Once I get my first product rolled out and selling I'll look into that.

Thanks again for connecting!

Regards,

Mike

Wow, that is great. You should do it. It’s hard to get your foot in the door with copywriting. If you get asked you should definitely do it. Even if it’s just this once, so you can get your portfolio started.

I wish you great success and a prosperous future.

Let’s keep in touch. I need someone to help me get motivated and stop procrastinating

Interesting post. We don't often think about what the audience wants, we focus on what we want from them.
Thank you, it adds a different perspective.
