We Are Rooted With What We Values

It took me awhile to understand this concept but I came to the conclusion that what we present out to the world to see, all begins with what we value. In other words what are our individual values.

As we all know that what we values individually can be our family, friend, business, religion and other things that we hold dear to our hearts. Now we can look at this as if we are looking at ourselves as a tree.

Say our values is our roots and is under the ground hidden away most of the time. Looking from outside, no one can tell what you value until they come to know you and understand what is really important to you. How we leave our lives is dictated by what we value, hence why without the root the tree is blown away and die. Our value determine how we conduct our lives. If the root of the tree is not long enough to get water and food from the ground then the tree will grow weak. The result will be seen from outside. If we value the right thing then people will see the result from the way we conduct our lives.

Wrapped around our values is our belief. What we believe is determined by what we value in our lives. Our belief system is directly connected to our values. Belief is the trunk of the tree that connect the root to the rest of the tree. Our belief system is strong enough to stand tall against the test of time and hold our lives according to our values.

Connected to the trunk is the branches that connects the fruits to the rest of the tree. Our attitude is connected to our belief, belief connected to our values. Then above the attitude connects our behaviour which is the fruit of the tree.


Tree : Roots ~ Trunk ~ Branch ~ Fruits

Life : Values ~ Belief ~ Attitude ~ Behaviour

We can’t change anyones behaviour unless we change his or her value. We can’t change someone’s attitude unless we change someone’s values. Whatever he values, he believes.

Now, I think in the marketing side of life, to get the customer attention and try to change his attitude towards our product will be a good effort, but to get him to value the product, it will change all his believe system and automatically he will be drawn towards our product.

So in my own opinion, Don’t get him to buy but tell him how valuable by far the product is, that will get the product to become one of his values and the rest will be history.

Let me know what you think. I may be wrong and at least we can share and discuss something about the marketing behaviour of individuals.

Nicely done and insightful. If wisdom were a tree and grew a little everyday what a structure would develop over several months. That is my hope for our online businesses. Structures that will stand the test of time because they provide value to our customers and sustenance to us.

Philosophically, I really like your analogy to the tree. This is an insightful and well drawn conclusion. In marketing value is a much sought after attribute even if it is only perceived value. You often hear of value added resellers and this generally means a significant upcharge for services you may or may not need and often must pay for like it or not, sales gimmick. Value is often projected in the social arena. The car I drive or the house I live in are often success barometers based on social desirability. People I suspect will purchase impulsively, selfishly, thoughtfully or in any fashion they so desire. I think the key lies in offering quality, utility, good information and this will promote value. I'm told a good salesman can sell air conditioners to Eskimos but as the song goes, "it ain't me babe." Keep up the good work and you're going to have a bang up website.

Oh Thank you so much Ed, you nail it right there when you elaborate on the ‘Value’ in marketing terms. When you mention the key in promoting value, one thing came to mind is that: Value is measured by firstly the quality and then quantity ( as value added) like you mentioned above. You’ve shone a light on that.

Your insight is refreshing. I especially can relate to the comment about buying versus telling. One must tell someone what it is before they would consider buying it. I must admit I am guilty of expecting people to simply buy without putting forth the effort to sell.
