Just made my first website and I hope that I can pull it off. I've decided to call it Planned Pocket Pethood. On this site I plan to discuss about some of the post popular pocket pets, like ferrets, rats, hamsters, mice, guinea pigs, and suger gliders to name a few. I want to touch on some basic information of each animal as well as knowledge on basic and advanced care for each animal. While I'm writing about all this I plan to recommend books and various products, like cages and food. I'm hoping this takes off since there seems to be a growing trend of pocket pet ownership, as well as increased numbers showing up at rescues. I'm also thinking about branching out to other pet niches like reptiles and amphibians and maybe get into specialized products for cats and dogs. My biggest, and perhaps unrealistic, goal is to make enough money to buy some land and start my own rescue someday.

That's great Melissa. It sounds like you are very passionate about the subject.
With this niche, you will definitely have more than enough content to write and keep people engaged.
Your goals aren't unrealistic. If you work hard, be patient and remain focused, there's no reason why you can't achieve your goals.

Wishing you success in your endeavors!

Thank you and yes this is something I'm very passionate about. I've been rescuing small pets off and on, when I can afford to, since I was a teenager (almost 20 years). I've seen some horrible cases of serious misinformation that led to so many sick and neglected animals, sometimes by the time I get to them they are beyond help. I want to inform people of what they are getting into when they get an animal, like a sugar glider, but at the same time not discourage people to have them since they can be quite rewarding to have. My hope is that if people can have the access to information, resources, and products then I might prevent another animal from passing away. Sorry, like I said this is something I'm very passionate about.

That's great Melissa! You will do well and this information is very much needed. Just one example where this is concerned. I heard a case where a person bought a pet snake without knowing that they can grow quite big. It was later found dumped at a refuse site. They said it was 6ft long.

I've had a few reptiles and I've seen a significant number of specialized rescues for them but they often run out room trying to keep up with the demand of abandonments. That's why there are so many invasive species in certain parts of the US, people get tired or overwhelmed trying to care them so they just release them into the wild. You also see that with pet fish. I remember my grandma was so mad at some of her students, she worked at a college, one time because they were going back home and couldn't take their piranhas with them so they released them at the lake that my grandma lived on. I think she shocked them with the language she used when she found out, lol.

Congratulations

Thanks.
