1 Month Progress Report
Well I'm just over a month in, and have made baby steps towards building out my backcountry skiing oriented site, https://hikeforpow.com. I don't have much traffic at all yet, but with patience and more content, I'm sure it will come.
Over the weekend I hit a bit of a milestone - 10 articles on my site! I know it isn't much in the grand scheme of things, but I'm proud of the content I've created so far and it's getting easier as I go.
I have a few ideas in the pipeline for my next posts, and have already started drafting up 2 of them. Getting better at keyword research has helped me come up with long tail keywords to target.
A few of my pages show up within the first 3 pages of Google search results, and I'm pretty happy with that at this point. One article briefly appeared on the first page (but was fairly quickly demoted - it's now on the second page).
Learning how to use Analytics and the Google Search Console has definitely helped, although Analytics won't actually be useful until I get some meaningful traffic. Fetching as Google speeds up the indexing process, and fetch and render allowed me to catch a mistake I made, so I would recommend learning how to use this effectively. There is a great video on this on WA (I think it's in a video from Jay about SEO).
In the short term I'll keep creating content, and long-term I need to find a new theme...mine hasn't been updated in a year, which is a bit concerning.
Stay safe out there!
Mike

Every new piece of content is an achievement. You have every right to be proud and celebrate the 10 post milestone mark. That's a good amount of content and opportunity! You'll notice that with each new piece of content you add the pace picks up just a little bit more in everything related to your website. It's a great feeling. Congrats on that milestone!
As for the theme, check out mojothemes and themeforest. I get all my Wordpress themes from those 2 sites. You'll end up spending ~$50 for a theme but you will absolutely get what you pay for.
Cheers,

Thanks for the tip about the theme resources. I've used 2 free themes until now, but have started looking for premium themes, as a $50 investment would be well worth it.
Cheers,
Mike
