About McSmith2007

I am a 38 year old woman, married for 7 years (together 9) and have 3 wonderful children who are turning 7,5,and 4 this year. I work 50 to 60 hours a week salaried position as an Assistant Service Manager for a corporation in the Automotive Industry.

I love that I can help people, even though a lot of them do not see it that way. The ones who do understand the services and help I provide them are very grateful. These are the same type of customers who have helped me get promoted in less then a year with the company by sharing their opinions with our Corporate Office and my Service Manager. I also love the people I work with on a day to day bases. My relationship with my SM is described best as "siblings"; it's honest and we lookout for one another in a setting that has some serious loyalty and trust issues above our pay grades, lately.

With that being said, the "parenting" and "spouse" parts of my life have been over shadowed. My husband has had to assume a majority of the parenting time now with the hours I keep. Before I was waiting tables or working for the local school district, (both jobs I loved because I was helping people and leaving a positive affect on them). I worked nights waiting tables and was able to take care of the kids during the day plus bringing in about what I make now in 4 shifts a week was nice, but no insurance and no future; I was already Head Waitress where else was I going to go? When I was with the School District I was home before my husband but the money was no where what we were use to and with cut backs Specials Ed programs for the High School Level was the first to be cut, and again no insurance and no full time given to anyone in my position. It was nice to be home in the summer with the kids, but that meant back to one pay check for the entire summer break.

I need to find something that not only is going to allow me to continue help financially with the household but also have the ability to work from home and be there for my kids (I am missing out on so much!). I dream of finding an opportunity that will give my husband and I something we can call ours!

My husband is a 14 year Vet with 101st and he does not get the respect in the current position he is in; by the way he works in a 12 below zero freezer every day and it is wearing on him physically. He leaves the house at 4:30am so he can start picking kids up from school starting at 2:45pm; this way he can still get in an 8 hour shift with some overtime if possible. I am not home until at least after 7pm every night and leaving the house at 7am every morning. My only time with the kids is putting my oldest on the bus at 6:45am and dropping the other two off at different preschools on my way to work. So this leaves my husband picking 3 kids up at 3 different locations, homework, dinner, baths, and if I don't get home in time, bedtime. I couldn't tell you the last time my husband and I went out alone.

I want success for us! For my kids! I need it! We need it! This way I can dictate my schedule and fulfill the promise I made to my husband, myself, and my children when I said I do 7 years ago this October!

I want this so my husband can take an offer or even explore other offers with out feeling like if he took something for less pay now, but a future down the road, he would put us behind the "8 Ball" again. I want my husband and I to be able to enjoy our family, travel with our kids, move away from the winters, and run our own business.

This is what I want. This is who I am.
I am not ashamed of wanting more. For wanting more is bettering my FAMILY!

This is why I am here and I am pleased to meet you all!
McSmith2007's Goals 3
Money Goals
GOALS:
#1: I would be satisfied bringing in an extra 2 to 3 thousand a month. That is what I am looking for. Something that is going to offset the bigger expenses of daycare, school tuition, and in house babysitters for my 3 children. I recently received a $3,000 a year promotion at work, GREAT, I know. I thought, "Finally, extra money to help my husband and I get a head and start saving." We had been a hole this past year. Almost losing our home (my husband having to file 13 to save it), limping along our vehicles that have been put on the back burner in order to pay for the basic household expenses, and not being able to see my family 11 hours away because we need to be frugal with our gas money! Well, with the increase in medical insurance my raise has allowed me to bring in an extra $20 every two weeks. It's $20 more then I have been receiving and it doesn't effect my normal take home, but it is a defeated feeling.

#2: What would I be ecstatic about? My monthly take home would exceed our combined total income; $5k to $6k a month! This would allow some breathing room for my husband to find employment that offers growth and/or work for himself; he works in a -12 below freezer all day long.

#3: How much time am I willing to invest? What can make us successful? I know I could start with at least an hour a night during the work week and at least 6 hours during the weekend (nap times). But see I have my husband on my side too, which proving that this is profitable, could triple that time with his help. He is a PC geek, lol, and is home earlier then I.

All guidance is welcomed! I am ready to make a change for my FAMILY, for MYSELF!

What a great goal for a positive outcome! I believe that you can do it! Here's a tip, set a timeline. For example, you might want to achieve that target by Dec 2014. Working backwards, you have about 10 months to build on the needed extra income. Once you start to see the extra revenue, you can calculate how much time is needed to achieve that target! I actually use a constant increase, but there are exponential increase every once a while, that is a true bonus! Cheers!

Thanks for your feedback too! It seems that your kids are still young, so here are some things that 4 to 6 year olds should be able to do.

1) Clean up their own mess (as long as it does not involve sharp and dangerous things such as broken glass), so they can use a cloth to clean up the water or milk they spilled, for example. As well as toys they played with.
2) Fold their own laundry! Well, it can be a family experience where everyone folds their own clothes (and time with kids because you can talk to each other too). It doesn't have to be too neat for them being so young, but they will get better with time ;)
3) Plan their own schedule of tasks or activities. Well, think of it as their list for the day or the week. One tip here is that they cannot do what they did not put in their list and it cannot be updated halfway through the day or week :P Kinda sneaky but it can help keep things on track.

And I think you are doing a wonderful job already, so you don't have to follow my tips above! ;)

I like the JUICE by the way, I find it cute haha! I learn about SMART goals.
S - Specific
M - Measurable
A - Achievable
R - Realistic
T - Timeline

Which is why I gave that tip about a timeline! Haha!

I can totally relate to your story but I won't tell you any more because with the limited time you have available, you need to concentrate on the lessons.

Lots of good wishes from England, UK.
