Time to get the passport renewed

I have never tried to renew my passport online before now, so this is an experiment for me. Tomorrow, Monday, I will begin the process of renewing my passport on line and I will bring an update on the process. I plan to attempt a video update. MAC.

This video is quite long at about half an hour. I guess it could be considered a learning video.

I concluded this video at the point where I uploaded my photo. I suspected that it would take several tries with the photo taking and uploading. I was quite right because the website did not accept the first two photos I uploaded. My first photo had too dark of a background. I guess my walls are not considered off white. They are actually a lace cream color or something like that. Anyway, my second photo, in front of one of our closet doors which are bright white, was not accepted because my eyes were closed too much. My third photo was accepted and I was then brought to a page where I had to review all of the information I gave them as well as give an emergency contact. I used my wife as my emergency contact. although we live together so we have the same address. I guess different phone numbers was sufficient for that.

That was all I had to do besides make the payment. The payment process was no different than all the thousands of other payments I have made online. It took only one or two minutes to accomplish. The whole process took me about 40 minutes to complete. MAC.

Update #1; They sent me an email 2 days later to tell me that my payment was processed successfully.

Update #2; I received another email the day after the first was sent that told me my application for passport renewal will now be processed and will take 4 to 6 weeks.

Update #3; I received the third email that stated "your application for passport renewal has been approved." Then it tells me that they will begin printing it and then send it to me. Oh, by the way, there is an application locator number included with every email.

Update #4; Today, 29th of July, I received another email from the state department telling me that I will receive my new passport by the 4th of August. That date is way sooner than the default time period of 4 to 5 weeks. I am happy to see that life CAN cooperate with me sometimes.

Update #5; Today is 30th of July and I already received my new passport. I received my new passport 5 days before the last email told me I might receive it.
