Therapy Dogs For Veterans-A Great Pick Me Up
2
Nothing can lift your spirit more than a dog, just ask a veteran. Many veterans that came back from war suffered from Post Tramatic Stress Disorder. There were some who committed suicide and many who tried, but didn't succeed. These vets were put on medicine and received therapy, but did little good. One thing that did help were therapy dogs. Therapy dogs were a great pick me up for these vets.
The numbers of vets who committed suicide were startling. There is a debate going on as to rather therapy dogs work with vets with Post Tramatic Stress Disorder really helps. All one has to do is to ask the veterans themselves. But there is still a lot of controvery this subject and a lot of it has to do with money.
For 15 years the Department of Veterans Affairs questions if dogs really helped vets with PDSD. In Florida there is a program named K9s for Warriors that offer vets with "psychiatric service" canines to help with the mental health crisis-aiding struggling vets to go back out into society and to mingle with people again.
So then there is a lot of controvery as to if a therapy dog can help vets with PTSD. I say just ask a vet with this condition if their therapy dog helped him or her. The answer you will get will be a resounding yes. They have said that their therapy dog saved their life and help more than any drug or time spent in counseling.

They may not be the final solution but it is a start. Ask any vet who has a service animal. The service animal helps them to start healing.
