A new direction in my journey

Greeetings WA legends, hope everyone is well this fine Wednesday evening (or whatever time it is for you) :-)

Wow, in commencing this little piece of blurb, I've just realised the last time I made any kinda WA post was back in December 2020!

The main reason for this? PURELY lack of time. As I found in the very beginning, around 6 months ago, TIME is still the constant luxury I have VERY little of-outside of my job, and after taking care of the kids and their 'many' needs lol.

Progress is a Process

My lovely little fam.

Most weeks, I'm lucky to get out ONE post/page on my website every fortnight! Trust me, I KNOW this is nowhere NEAR enough to start generating the kinda income I'm chasing, or even near enough to generate ANY income-as has been the case so far.

I can 100% relate to the small audience I've garnered thus far NOT wanting to invest in any of my affiliate links, considering I still have only just under 20 or so posts!

Another reason for the lack of any commissions etc, I believe, as also suggested by a member here who is doing this full time (and kicking a bit of butt too!) is the fact that my website is based around a medical/health related type field-as it is a site trying to help other parents of autistic children, by sharing the ups and downs of my family's journey with my severely autistic, non-verbal son Andre.

Me & my main man Andre.

Although I'll continue adding bits and pieces to this site, I do understand that the level of income in this type of area is going to be very limited, since most people, as I encourage them to, come to my site to find some more personal answers and INFORMATION to common questions and issues parents can face with an autistic child.

Because this is such a personal subject to write a blog on, I do have a lot of trouble with doing ANY posts under 3000 words, as I just have a lot to share and pass on, since it is of course our reality 24/7.

I guess in a way, these posts were always intended to just try to help other parents out there know they're not alone, so the money making part was never really gonna be huge within this field for me I find. I'm also not generating a huge amount of traffic either though sadly, with my biggest day to date being only around 45 visitors.

I know there are thousands/millions of other sites out there that CAN still kill it on commissions etc in these areas, but the key difference I find with these sites and mine, is that they generally have at least 1 or 2 actual health professionals-occupational therapists/speech therapists/ behavioural specialists.

Leave it to the Pros

This means they are able to speak on things from a very qualified position-as opposed to me, who can only pull from our own experiences, without the medical credentials to back up any observations, claims, or offer professional perspective on all things autism.

This also makes sense to me, as I too wouldn't likely hand over my hard earned cash to a website that didn't really seem to have any 'credentials' etc. The rub, is just that I wish I had've realised this BEFORE commencing writing on my site.

But, as they say, "You live, and you learn" and I have learned a lot about putting websites together, SEO, rankings, and so on, things that 7 months ago I had NO IDEA on how to do.

I'm looking at this as a lifetime investment into a more sustainable lifestyle for my family and I, so I'm not salty about the last 6 months, working on a site that won't likely be the one to put us where I'm aiming, I'm just grateful for the opportunity, and happy to put it down to part of my ongoing learning in this arena.

I'm looking at the MMO area, as naturally that's how many of us got here, with an ambition to share knowledge whilst also trying to make money online. I know this can be a very 'crowded' niche at the moment, but I do also genuinely believe it's one of the absolute best ways I've ever heard of, to make a living.

What is the meaning of adult education?

As I've stated before, I think it's crazy that the automatic 'go-to' for most of us, when wanting to upskill ourselves in our careers or lives is to think of what study we can do. This is mainly because this is how many of us were raised-you want to be something, go get qualified up.

That's not the crazy part, it makes sense, what is crazy, is that a lot of study options out there can set us back thousands upon thousands of dollars, depending on the field of study, and the level you want to get to-i.e. degree, diploma, bachelor's, Master's etc.

Once you've gained all that debt, you then need to work your butt off, to pass all assignments, get good marks, and hope like crazy that you actually pass the course!

That's when the part that bugs me the most comes in, after going through all those months or years of learning, finally achieving that 'almighty' qualification, you then have to apply for jobs in your field, and prove over other qualified candidates that you're the best fit for the position.

Just to add insult to injury, most often, employers are looking for candidates with not only the credentials, but also the experience in the field-which is often hard to obtain when no one will give you a start! So for all that time, stress, and money, you have zero gaurantees of even succesfully landing a role in your chosen field!

The online way

With making money online, especially through awesome platforms like here at WA, you actually have the potential, and all the required resources, to start earning money even when you are brand new and know very little!

That's why I won't be letting this change in direction set me off course, I was previously willing to put in years of study to better myself, with no gaurantees of employment, or even of whether or not I'd actually enjoy the jobs that the qualifications may have opened up for me.

This isn't definite...there are a couple other areas I'm considering too, so will see what pans out. I'll try to start posting updates a little more frequently too-I figure with my lack of time, it's gonna be tricky either way, so gonna just double down the next few months & see where it takes us.

Here's to new beginnings! It's also Thursday for us in a few hours, so one step closer to Friday! I Hope you are all doing well, and just killing it in your own niches and journeys.

I'm always keen to hear from other members who have been through similar directional changes with their sites, even with what I've learned thus far, I still feel like a total beginner, so always welcome any advice thanks guys!

Peace

Matty.
