Google URL Customisation
Good morning!
This would ideally go in training but that won't be possible for another few weeks; not long now until my 3 monthiversary!
I did however want to share this little tip with you before then. I was setting up a page for my website on Google+ over the weekend and found that I could customise the URL. Great, I thought and I was presented with the option to change to:
but it insisted that I added some letters or numbers on the end. I checked in the search bar and found that there were no other pages called Attract Your Dreams, so why did I have to add any characters? I nearly just stuck a 1 on the end but before doing so did a Google search to see if there was a workaround. It turns out that you can have the URL without extra characters if it is available; but, you have to wait until Google offers it to you. In my case it took about 48 hours before I received an email offering me the URL, although it can take a bit longer.
So, if you're setting up your page and it's not a name that has been used before, just wait until Google offers you the URL because if you change it beforehand it can't be changed again.
To conclude, I am now the proud owner of google.com/+attractyourdreams. It's just a shame that somebody already got there before me on Facebook and it's too long to use as a Twitter handle!
Any thoughts on what I could use instead?
Matthew
