Are You Failing With Online Marketing? I Think This Could Be The Reason

Hi All,

I've noticed alot of people often come to a stop when it comes to analytics of your website.

I want to give some insight as to why taking the time to understand some of your website analytics is so crucial if you're going to take your online marketing to the next stages.

I also think it's essential for me to note that no matter what you're doing in life if you understand the numbers - it will always put you in a strong position when it comes to acting and making decisions on direction.

Last Friday I created a blog about a micro-transaction membership site I've built and how I managed to generate an extra £651.45 per year passively by spending 1 hour, per day, every day for the past two months. In fact, it would probably be better if you read that before continuing as I will be referencing it.

Onto the numbers

The more I analyse this membership site, the more I realise what areas I'm analysing and how I'm making tough decisions by using calculated information.

Here is an example; Times.

You may be thinking wtf does "Times" got to do with anything, well hold on, allow me to elaborate.

When I first started advertising my membership I did not get much of a reaction from people - the memberships were randomly trickling in during the day. One morning I got into the office after picking up my small vanilla latte with soya milk from Costa ;) and started advertising at around 8 am - I noticed 25 minutes after I advertised, 3-6 people were on my site at any one time during that 1-hour gap from 8am-9am.

Once 9 am (ish) hit, all of a sudden the numbers dropped. They didn't pick up again until 7pm-9pm that same day.

I thought "Okay, let's try this again at these times - tomorrow." I did just that and guess what? It happened again - busy during these times and then nothing.

I did it again, and again, and again and before you know it - I had a pattern.

I then started questioning why my target audience were responding during these times, and it clicked. People are working during the day. They don't check there computers or phones properly!

This got me really excited because without paying attention to the analytics - I would have never of known this and would have been advertising when people were not looking.

The next thing... Timing but a different sort...

I know I just spoke about timings, but this section is focusing on a different type of timing, page speed timing.

Another thing I noticed was people clicking on my link but then leaving straight away... I had an 87% bounce rate and for anyone who isn't clear on what bounce rate means; "the percentage of visitors to a particular website who navigate away from the site after viewing only one page."

My issue with the bounce rate was visitors were not even spending 1 second on the website! I kept thinking "why are so many people clicking on the link and yet no one is staying on the site for longer than a second?"

I started analysing my website... It turns out it was taking 15 seconds to load :0

Can you imagine waiting 15 seconds to see a website? Needless to say, I was pissed.

It turns out it was a combination of poorly optimised images and videos... I fixed the page speed issues within 1 hour and the next hour I got my first sale. Just in case anyone wants to see my bounce rate now, here it is:

Moral of this story

I've not written this article to say "I have so much knowledge" or "I'm so successful" or "you're stupid."

I've written this article because this is a community is one of learning, and often we overlook these things which can seem so small but are and usually the deciding factor on succeeding or not. I'm saying this because I'm currently experiencing some results from applying what I've said here.

I've purchased a lot of courses in the past and sick and tired of not being told these little things when they are soooooo IMPORTANT!
