To Guttenberg or Not To Guttenberg

Still a bit confused on Guttenburg. I current have not updated to it. If I create a new website, can I update Guttenburg to the new website only or will my other "old" WP websites be converted to Guttenburg as well?

Thanks for your help!

On building a new website found out about Gutenberg editor.

Three years after this post.

Didn't understand it.

But saw a comment that WP will stop support for Classic on 2022.

This means that Gutterberg is the thing to go to.

Found a simple and easy to follow short tutorial on this update.

It isn't as difficult as it seem.

Learning on how to use it.

This is a great tutorial. Mark

Hi Mark! Thanks for the reply! I've loaded up the Classic plugin...just in case. So far I've not run into any issues with my Elementor site.

Have a great New Year!

Great question Martin!
Check out my recent posts, you will find much food for thought to help you answer this question!

thanks for the link! I upload the "go back to classic" as well as Elementors block plugin. I then updated to Guttenburg and so far there have not been any issues.

So far I'm finding that I like using the Site Content. I find it has the most features that I use. Trying to convert to block editor once I publish just gets really messy and often freezes my site. Just not ready to switch yet. Perhaps things will be later if some updates are done in the future...
Cheers,
Eliza

Eliza, thanks for the reply. Happy New Years to you and yours!
One of my websites uses Elementor and I'm concerned that if, on another website, I upload Guttenburg, will my other sites be affected. In other words, will Guttenburg will be applied across all of my websites, potentially messing up my Elementor site.

Martin

Hi Martin,

I tried to change but ended up switching back to the classic editor, it is easily done with the classic plugin.

Using the block format will be easier if you are creating your content in WordPress.

But for me, I write my content in MS Word first then copy and paste to the Site Content platform on WA. For the additional check and adding the images.

Then publish it from the Site Content so that my content publishing can be tracked within that system.

Hop that helps!

Chad, thanks for the reply. I have several websites hosted by WA and I'm wondering if I upload Guttenburg on one website, is it forced onto my other non-Guttenburg websites?

I don't know I only have one website, but the Guttenburg is the 5.0 WordPress update, right?

If it is the WordPress update it would affect all of your websites, if I am thinking about this right.

Chad, yes the Guttenburg is the 5.0. Guess I'll be holding off updating to Guttenburg.

Happy New Year Chad to you and yours!!

Hey Martin,

I know this reply is coming to you about 4 months after you posted the question. Hopefully you got your answer.

I have only today, April 27, 2019 updated to Gutenberg on one of my test websites and trying to master it without the Classic Editor plugin.

What a piece of s--t Gutenberg is compared to the Classic version. Like Chad, I write my content in a document program and then paste it into WP. It doesn't work the same.

But to answer your question...

No. Updating one of your hosted WP websites here at WA will not change all of your other websites, because when you update you do so within each individual website.

Hope that made sense.

Robert
