How To Get Higher Amazon Commissions

I was watching the training Jay did on alternatives to Amazon since their upfront commission rates are terrible. I also feel like they're not taking affiliates and their affiliate program seriously anymore and can see it fizzling out over time as an unsubstabtiated prediction.

But for the time being, while there is an Amazon Affiliate program, I wanted to share some ways you can use to get higher commission rates. Some are temporary and some are more permanent methods so make sure to read the terms of each respective program, promotion, etc.

Higher Commissions Within The Amazon Platform

The first thing to know is that there are a few ways to make extra income and/or higher commissions right on the Amazon Affiliate platform.

First of all, go to the menu and select Promotions. You will see options like:

• Creator Connections
• Amazon Bounty Program
• Creator Rewards

Creator rewards is like a special promotion that they run where you get bonus earnings depending on how much money you earn. I always sign-up for it when I get the invite. It is something even if you don't sell as much.

The one that I want to zoom in on though is Creator Connections. Here, you'll be able to search for products and see what brands are running promotions for higher commission rates. You can also see info like how much the brand is investing in the promotion and how much of that budget is left to be gained.

On average, you can get 10% - 20% commission rates depending on the product. These tend to be for a temporary period so make sure to pay careful attention to the date range. Some are longer than others but you can find some with either really long time frames or that run indefinitely if you're lucky.

Also, if you are looking for a brand on Amazon and they have a promotion in Creator Connections, it may or may not say so when you go to grab the affiliate link so make it a habit to check if you can.

One warning I will give you is do not interchange brands and products. In other words, if you have a product A that looks like product B that is running a promotion, do not use product A to make content. The brands know their product and you will get in trouble if you do that.

Higher Commision Rates Outside of Amazon

There is another way to get higher commission rates, and that is within platforms outside of Amazon. These platforms are starting to also include other stores like Walmart and generally provide more steady commission rates. Again, make sure to read the terms carefully.

When I first learned about platforms like these, I was invited to it but you can also apply like a regular platform.

The one I use the most and can attest that they have a lively brand engagement is called Levanta. I did an article the other day about getting free products from brands. If you ask for it, a lot of the brands here will send you products. Some don't even ask for anything, some ask for reviews, and some ask for content.

If you are doing content for a free product make sure that they are at least interested in a potential long term relationship. Don't sell yourself short and/or disrupt a good way to generate income.

On this platform you will have to apply to programs but don't let that deter you. Applying sounds more intimedating than it actually is. Brands are starving for visiblity and you will probably get a lot of invites too.

The thing you have to be most aware of is if a brand either pulls out of the platform or if they remove you from their program. But, if that happens, there are still plenty of other brand programs available.

Another platform I've seen showing up lately within emails is Wayward though I have not had a chance to check it out myself. I linked it there if you want to explore that platform yourself.

One more recommendation I have here is that if you sign up for these platforms keep your eyes on your inbox and message box. Sometimes brands will privately invite you to collaborations and different other opportunities via private message or email.

You do not have to have a huge following or any following. Some might simply want you to create assets for them to use on their different platforms or review pages. I never knew that brands paid for content on their review pages until I got the job to do it but apparently its a thing.

So all this to say, that even though Amazon is wishy-washy with its affiliate program, there are still a few opportunities out there that can potentially help you to make more for your efforts.
