Building Momentum: A Behind-the-Scenes Look at My Affiliate Marketing Journey Over The Past Month

Hey there,

Happy December! Can you believe the year is almost over already? Technically I think of my chapters as my birthday but the year is also a time to think of where we want to go with our business and personal things as well.

Over the past month, I’ve been very intentional about building my site Internet Incomes and I wanted to share an update on where things stand and how I’m moving forward.

Just to briefly recap, if you've been following my journey, since the end of September (2 months ago), I've been working along side Affiliate Bootcamp to build my site. I've had it for a while now but hadn't put much work into it.

The site started with 19 monthly visitors and has grown to what it is below.

Progress in Numbers

Starting with some numbers (ugh, my head hurts already, LOL 🤣), My Google Analytics snapshot for the past 30 days shows a 54% increase in active users and a 34% boost in overall event count. That’s 495 active users and 2.2K events.

Even more encouraging, I think, is that 486 of those users are new. While I had to pause my Facebook ads temporarily, organic traffic is still rolling in, which tells me my content is starting to find its groove.

I’ve also been cited in AI-generated search results a few times, which always catches me off guard because I feel like my site is much smaller than a lot of bigger names in this industry. This is another indication to me that the work I’m putting into making my content more accessible to AI and human readers alike is actually working.

I think it also shows how much room there is for quality content and that it really does make a difference. Put in the time, effort and your own personal touch.

And I would not know any of the strategies if not for studying the training here at Wealthy Affiliate. I've come back to a completely new way of doing things so its a lot of unlearning, learning and figuring out but I know it will be worth it.

Creating Content Through Imperfections

Let me be honest. I’ve had a lot of anxiety around promoting affiliate marketing, especially in video format. And I've been questioning myself a lot because I'm not camera shy. Its a lot to do with being looked down on by people who don't get it.

I’ve also been dealing with personal insecurities, like my hair loss and my skin, that make pressing "record" harder than it should be. But one day recently, my daughter was nearby cheering me on, and I hit the button.

That one push reminded me why I’m doing this in the first place: to build something that gives my family more choices and freedom.

That’s why I decided to participate in Vlogmas by sharing one affiliate tip every day through December. I even created a TikTok account and started posting these tips across different platforms to see where they land best. The goal is to just keep going.

Since its hard to take a picture by myself these days, and this is typically how working looks like anyway (just more like a wrestling match 🤼‍♀️), here's me and my leg clam. I'm trying to convince her that her daddy is more cushioned than me but she hasn't bought it yet...lol 🤣😅🤦🏾‍♀️

Testing, Learning, Growing

I'm still working writing better hooks and cta's. Though I've been trying other strategies, I think buttons work best. I've noticed a lot of sites link the actual heading. I've never did that but I'm starting to wonder if that works better? I'm still reluctant to try it. I would love to hear your thoughts on it.

Pinterest is another platform I’ve been working on. I initially included links with my pins but quickly realized that might’ve been hurting my reach. After adjusting my strategy and holding off on links and comments, I’ve noticed a positive shift in visibility. Again, a bit of trial and error.

No Referrals Yet, But That’s Okay

Despite all this growth, I still haven’t gotten a Wealthy Affiliate referral yet. But here’s what I know: this is a long game. The seeds I’m planting today won’t all bloom tomorrow. And every piece of content, every mistake, every little win (even being picked up by AI search) is part of building something real.

The Bottom Line

This journey takes time, resilience, and a willingness to be seen, flaws and all. I’m doing it afraid, tired, and sometimes unsure. But I’m doing it.
