Would you kick someone off your website?

A strange question... but would you kick a genuine visitor with an interest in your product or service and money in their hand out of a real life shop for no reason, for them never to return?

I hope your answer was "No"?

Well please, stop doing it on your websites! C'mon people! It's in the training, but not only that... it's common sense!

I love exchanging comments with people on WA, it's a great way as we know to help build SEO and I use this thread frequently:

But SO many of you add a useful source link which is great, but don't check "open in new window". So you're sending users away from the site you've put so much effort into, for them possibly/probably never to return. They leave to read another article, or go to Facebook or Youtube to get distracted by watching cats licking themselves in funny places...

Don't send them to Facebook, don't send them to Youtube. These social media giants do not need your help in sending traffic their way. Every visitor you send to Facebook or Youtube, you've probably just lost.

Integrate your social sharing buttons so they open in an internal window. So once they've shared they can continue on your site if they wish.

The video embeds on your site, make sure to turn off the "show related videos" off where possible.

Always make external links open in a new tab. Internal ones are fine because they're still on your site.

Sorry if that sounds like a rant, but we're all working hard on our sites, and I hate to see people losing out when iot could be the chance of a sale or an increase in the time a user stays on your site.

I mean it with love!

You should always try to find ways to keep them on your site so that your site turns green from the money.

Thanks for the timely reminder. That simple step (making external links open in a new window) is so easy to do but so often overlooked. It's a pity that isn't the default setting when creating external links.
