Moon, Saturn, Mars and Antares this week

Hi.

The 4 brightest objects in the night sky this week are clearly visible with the naked eye.

Just look up for the moon, and follow the map above.

Interesting (to me anyway) fact: Antares is a supergiant star - and very red in colour.

In Greek, Antares means "anti Ares". Ares was the Greek name for the Roman named planet, Mars - hence it came to be known as Antares - anti-Mars (Mars' rival).

All the best, Mark

Thanks for reminding me Mark. I think we get so caught up with things we forget to look at the sky. I have a Planet app & often check it to see whats happening out there but don't often go outside & look up.....

Thank you - yes the night sky for me is a bit of escapism from other things which are going on.

Very timely, thank you Mark. I love watching stars but living near the city, the night sky is not very distinct. I had to purchase Skyview and Sky Guide apps to observe sometimes.

Cheers Mark, I will take a look.

Thank you Chuka.

I'm lucky enough to live in the highlands of Scotland - I only have to go about half a mile until I'm on the completely other side of a hill from light pollution.

Cheers, Mark

Thanks , I always take the time to gaze at the heavens. It keeps me in perspective . I guess it was a couple of weeks ago early in the morning I was able to see the international Space Station fly over. Looks like a star moving across the heavens.
