Meteor Showers are back! :

Hi - the Perseids are back again - visible from mid July, they're around their peak just now. I'm currently in Tuscany in Italy, where the clear dark skies have given me the best opportunity yet to see them.

NASA are predicting almost double the usual amount from this meteor shower this year - so this is the best time ever to look up and see a meteor if you have clear skies.

Read more here if you're interested: http://whenthestarscomeout.com/perseid-meteor-show... - if not, just have a look up in the night sky, throughout the rest of August - and make a wish!

All the best, Mark

Thanks for sharing.

Here in the southern US, we reach our peak viewing Aug 11-17. My husband saw one the other night and he said it was the biggest, brightess one he had ever seen. We live in the country, so we have some great, dark skies for viewing. Supposed to have rain, of course, all week.

Sounds great Shelley - there was thunder and lightning in Tuscany a few nights this/last week - but I'm hoping the drive home to Scotland tomorrow will show a few in the darker sky areas!

All the best, Mark

Interesting post. Thanks, Mark.

Hi Mike - thank you!

Cheers, Mark

Thanks for this Mark!

You're welcome Michael!

Cheers, Mark

Will you be able to see them Australia, how exciting. :)

Hi Tracy - yes - the Earth is passing through debris from a comet, which is spread far wider/higher than our planets size - so the world over, when it's dark (and hopefully with clear skies), you've a great chance of seeing some meteors.

All the best, Mark

Thanks Mark, we will be keeping an eye out to see if we can spot any. Cheers Tracy:)

Interesting. Thanks for sharing.

I saw one coming back from Brisbane hospital visit.
But it was too late to make a wish as a kangaroo came out of the ditch and was in mid air when it hit the side of the car about 5 minutes earlier.

Kangaroo? Really? Is that like being hit by a deer? If it is I am glad you are okay. I know about being hit by a deer. Never been hit by a kangaroo. Hopefully, there is not too much da

Minor damage to the rear door.
They make big damage like a deer.
After repairing cars for 50 years I am allergic to cars as I now have a bad back.
And I will not get paid to repair this one.

Deer are our biggest problem in Scotland - that and coming round a country road into a herd of cows (yes, really :) ) - not much fun... hope you're ok!

cheers, Mark

Thanks Mark

I can't wait. A perfect opportunity for a relaxed night out with a glass of nicely chilled white wine.
Thanks Mark!

Aww that sounds perfect - however, as I'm on holiday in Tuscany just now, and I'm the designated driver of our mini-bus (family and in-laws), it'll have to be a wee diet coke or water for me - still, well worth relaxing and looking up either way!

All the best Mudre,

Mark

To you too and enjoy your time with family in Tuscany. It's got to be a great holiday.

One of the best - definitely be back to Italy!

Cheers, Mark

I'm in Scotland at the moment and my friends here are saying they will be highly visible here this coming weekend. If it's the same meteors anyway lol. Should be lovely to watch if I can stay awake :)

Hi Angela - I'll be back in Scotland tomorrow night (driving up from Glasgow, after returning from Italy) - so I'll have the perfect opportunity to see them on the way up the A9.

It will be the same meteors - it's the same comet debris we're passing through just now, the world over.

I hope you see some!

All the best, Mark
