Thrifty This Halloween
A Dilemma
It was Halloween. I had eight children reminding me that I needed to get them ready for a fall party at a friend's house. What do I do with eight children who need costumes; without spending a fortune? How do I accomplish this in just a few hours? I'm going to be thrifty this Halloween.
Getting Focused
Getting focused is the key. First, I had to take their ages into consideration; which are 16,14,12,10, 8, 6, 4, and 3 years old.
I started with the youngest. I went to a box of hand-me-downs to find a costume for the little fellow, which transformed him into Frankenstein.
Next, is something I hate doing, but some bargains are only available at the last minute, so I took a trip to a nearby store. Happy Halloween! –50% off costumes. I found a Ninja costume for the eight year-old, and a furry, girly monster costume for my six year-old; both for just a little over twenty dollars.
I found a cute little dress-up skirt with some jewelry and a tiara for my little four year-old princess for sixteen dollars.
The ten year-old is wearing a costume that was given to her by a friend.
When I brought my daughter home from college, she put her sister's hair in pigtails. Then she used her fringed jacket and their dad's cowboy hat to give our twelve year old a yee-haw of cutie cowgirl look.
I spent about three dollars for make-up, so our fourteen year-old son could put camo on his face. He wore a shirt that he had in his closet, tied a bandana around his head, and nailed the military look.
I spent about ten dollars on color hair spray for my sixteen year-old who kind of went for the Monster High look.
Party Time
With some help from my older girls, we were on our way to the party by 6 p.m. This dilemma was solved, and we all had a great time! I spent approximately sixty dollars for everything, which included a pair of jeans from the thrift store to complete my cowgirl look! Not bad for eight children and a mom.
