Yoast SEO Question - Help please

Thinking about changing from AIO SEO to Yoast since AIO disabled the Schema Markup functionality.
My question is in regards to already published posts/pages and the DESCRIPTION SNIPPET.
I handcrafted the meta description of all my posts and wonder if these will be retained, or are subject to be automatically created by the search engines (using the first 160 characters of the post).
