Launching Ugly - I met my first goal this Sunday!

I have a GREAT reason to celebrate!

This Sunday, I bit the bullet and bought my domain.

This goal wasn't to have a picture perfect website ready to launch by November 26th, 2020. The goal was to get the ball rolling come what may.

If there is one thing I've learned in the last few years, it's that waiting until all ducks are in a row actually serves as an excuse not to launch. Steve Sims (2017) says that even having patience can be an excuse not to act. I love it when he says with his thick London, east end accent, "If you're not moving, you're dying."

Extreme? No. I think it's excellent perspective. If in a week I am in the same place I am now, I'm literally stalling, and stalling leads to quitting. Quitting leads to real failure. Real failure is when you allow the comfort of not doing the hard work it takes to achieve your goal to make you complacent enough to give up.

Failure is when you give into the comfort of not trying anymore.

Goals are hard, but they should be achievable. My goal is not to have a website that makes me $10k a month. That's my dream. My goal is to just get the damn thing up and going, ugly or not. Ugly is good... because it means there is something there rather than nothing.

Dream big, but break your dream down into much smaller, reachable goals. That way, you have no excuse why you shouldn't achieve them. (I'll write another blog post soon on breaking dreams down into manageable goals and goals into steps.)

Until then, if you need a structured goal, try this.

S.M.A.R.T. Goal

  • Specific
    • State what you'll do
    • Use action words
  • Measureable
    • Provide a way to evaluate
    • Use metrics or data targets
  • Achievable
    • Within your scope
    • Possible to accomplish, attainable
  • Relevant
    • Makes sense and is applicable
    • Improves your website/business in some way
  • Time-Bound
    • State when you'll get it done
    • Be specific on date or timeframe

Good luck! You've got this.

Let it be ugly. At least you're doing something.

Just like a body in motion stays in motion, a plan in motion stays in motion.

Let's be friends,

Rachel Lovelace

Great motivational words there Rachel!

Keep working hard and with this mindset you are sure to reach your goals.

Thank you, Jessie! Will do. - Rachel

You're welcome and I know you will!

Rachel, I've never actually heard about Steve Sims but I'm now a fan for life. His motto if ' if you're not moving, you're dying,' has been the most important aspect of my life that I believe in. Keep following the training. Keep setting smart, realistic goals. Keep moving forward. Rachel, you have got this!

Thank you! Definitely check out his book Bluefishing. I listened to it for free on Audible. It's one of their Included titles that you don't have to pay for if you have a monthly subscription. It's short, sweet, and straight to the "damn" point. ;) I'm listening to it a second time this week. Just over 3 hours.

I will definitely listen Rachel. Thank you for sharing
