Highs and lows are part of life, right? Challenges, setbacks, victories and awesome achievements too. How do we ride through the highs and lows, challenges and set backs so we can progress to the victories and awesome achievements? Is this a process that comes naturally to you? How do you go about reclaiming your mojo? My recent experience has taught me that it's best done with baby steps.

On Defining Mojo

I did a quick search on the word "Mojo" and encountered the following according to the Urban Dictionary:

"Mojo is a noun originally used to mean a magic charm or spell or an amulet,"

To be clear, I am a committed Christ follower, so the likes of "magic charm" and "spell" have no place in my world. For the purposes of this article, let's stick to the meaning of Mojo according to the Cambridge dictionary:

a quality that attracts people to you and makes you successful and full of energy:He's definitely lost his mojo.He needs to get his mojo working if he's going to win the election.

What Are Baby Steps?

I read a book last year the memories of which flicker in the dark recesses of my mind. The name of the book and the author elude me right now, but basically the message is about doing small things, just one little step every, single, day. These are the baby steps I am speaking of.

What can you do, just something small, today which will help you find your way again? Light the path? Just one thing?

Listen to a podcast - yawning through it? No problem, just listen as long as you can - or for as short a time as you can tolerate.

Read a blog - eyes watering, not able to make it to the final full stop? No problem, just go as far as you can, just for today.

Write a blog - now this may be a push, but write, just for as long (or as short) as you can. Thoughts fuzzing up and fogging your brain? Hit save and close the blog.

Then move on. That is the baby step for today. Tomorrow is another day.

Try Analyze Your Situation

What is causing this loss of mojo? Can you figure it out? Does analyzing it cause a deeper decline? Let it go, do something you enjoy doing without having to think, even if its to take a nap. If that is what you need and is coming easily to you, go ahead, take that nap.

Perhaps the nap is what you need to find your mojo. Tomorrow is another day.

Tomorrow Comes & Now What?

Take another baby step. That's right, just do one thing to help you find that light for your path. just one.

Google (our blessed friend, often our foe) an inspirational quote, a favourite saying. Just one. Print it out. Does it give you a lift in your belly, or is that sinking, sagging sensation gnawing at your gut? Either way, just set it aside, read it again tomorrow - or not.

Another baby step done, for the day.

Another Analysis Attempt

It's only a big deal if you make it one. Keen to try some analysis again today? Yes? What do you find? Recognition of the cause? Perhaps even a way around it? A little flicker of enthusiasm stirring in your soul? Awesome, hold on to that and treasure it. This could be your mojo maneuvering it's way back.

The Day After Tomorrow

Feel like another baby step? Listen to a podcast? Read a blog? Google for inspiration? No? You sure? Definitely no. Okay then, no baby steps today. Let's rest and relax. Watch a mind-numbing moving. Play a mindless game on your phone. Spend time engrossed in an easy-to-read and light novel.

Allow your brain to rest, no challenges, just rest.

Allow the space for creative thoughts to configure in the back of your mind, if that is what they choose.

Analysis?

No pressure, no need to analyze either.

Remember, you are a human being, not a human doing. Sometimes nothing is a good thing.

Just be.

The Day After That

Recall the flicker from day two of baby steps? Yes, that little treasure. Is it still there? Can you feel the little bubble rising in your belly? Beautiful, hold onto it. No need to force it, the flicker is still there. Smile to yourself, knowing, just knowing.

Listen to a podcast, watch a video on YouTube, ask Google to guide to you to some inspiration. Maybe even return to the semblance of a blog you wrote on day 1.

Analysis

Yes, getting stronger every day. Just little by little, but what is the origin of the funk? Any ideas starting to surface? No need to tackle them, just develop an awareness.

Take The Time You Need

You're getting the idea, it's baby steps every day. Some baby steps are a step forward, some are just marking time. Just take the time you need.

Melancholic?

Not known to write melancholic posts (at least I don't think i do), you may be surprised by this one. I have been in a state of melancholy, that came after the angst and frustration and much unnecessary tension.

8 October 2019 was the date of my successful eye surgery. That doesn't make sense, surely I should be ecstatic, energetic and enthusiastic!

Not so fast, healing from eye surgery does take time. Not only did the eye itself need to heal but my brain had to learn to comprehend vision with two eyes again.

The inability to spend time working online has been a massive cause of frustration for me, after journeying through the maze and myriad of emotion, finally arriving at acceptance and settling into melancholy.

Sharing The Lesson

This post is part of the same journey. Moving me back into posting within the wonderful WA community. Sharing my learning to lighten someone else's potentially heavy or frustrating load.

Revealing the way to reclaiming mojo with baby steps

What have been your lessons? I would love to hear from you - we all have something to share and can learn from one another.

Blessings

PS The name of the book is The Slight Edge by Jeff Olson - I recommend it highly.

A couple of years back I awoke to one blurry eye. I would not clear. The eye doc told me I needed a lens replacement. Those were scary words to me. Then they told me that I would be conscious when they did it. It was a "boo-rattly" moment. The surgeon does many a week and reassured me I would be okay.

Day of surgery I thought he might not agree with me about self-medication, so I did it anyway. I don't pray often, but I did that morning.

He, with the help of a few RNs or something, worked quickly. I did not experience any pain at all. They put a patch on it when done and told me to leave it on overnight.

The next morning I removed the patch and I could see clearly and the color Blue jumped at me. I asked him when will he do the other eye. He told me he had to wait a couple of weeks. I called him often and he got me in about week 2 after the first eye was done. During those two weeks, I had to put tape over one of my eyes in order to watch TV or read. Not only the clarity return, the color blue, and my sight was 20/20. The second transplant did go as smoothly as the first on. He told me after that most people have some difficulty with the second one. I remember moving my eye while they worked on it. The doc told me to stop moving my eye a couple of times.

I no longer have to purchase 300.00 bifocals once a year. Driving without glasses on feeling weird. All good.

I pray you to have good success with the treatment of your eyes.
Dr. Jeff

Wow, Dr Jeff! You have been so fortunate with your surgery and post-op recovery! Awesome! Thank you for your encouragement.

Hi Louise,

Your so right! Baby steps is the best way forward to achieving. Sometimes I want to take giant steps to get me to A to Z straight away. But it's just not possible. Set backs whatever they are (in your case healing from eye surgery) happen in daily life and if you have to go at a slow pace then so be it. As long as you don't become stagnate.

Looking forward to your next blog and how your vision is healing.

Nicola

Hi Nicola

Thank you for reminding me - those giant steps (that I am inclined to want to take) are not the best route.

Blessings always

So many have said that if we miss this time we will not succeed, yet I say baby steps and at our own pace is very important. I started losing some Mojo as you say this fall due to several things affecting the family and myself, health and personal.
I felt then and now not to base any comparison on those who may not have to take small "baby" steps to get back in the groove.
You gave many good ways to move back in a way that benefits and feels right for yourself. Good explanation and examples. Glad you wrote this. Very timely for me.
Take care,
Thanks,
Bill

Hi Bill
Thank you so much. The response I have received from you is confirmation that this was the right article to share. I was a bit reluctant to share because we tend to focus more on taking action and motivation. It's wonderful to receive your message after feeling that way when I wrote.
Blessings always
Louise

Hi Louise, great to see your post...I’m glad to see you working your way back.

This is very insightful and is great advice. It works great for someone feeling burn out on things as well.

I look forward to seeing more from you here!

I wish you the best!
Bob

Hi Bob
Isn't it amazing, as we share our experience, we connect with others on different levels?
Thank you for taking the time to stop and read, I really appreciate it.
Blessings always
Louise
PS I look forward to being here more too :-) Felt like I was missing a limb!

I can relate. If I am away from WA more than a day... I start to feel like I’m missing everyone here. Even though most of the time I’m not away more than a few hours.

I’m always popping in and out throughout the day...

Great post lots of good stuff
Tim

Thank you so much, Tim. Glad you enjoyed it.
Blessings
Louise
