Learning To Lead
Being new in the work from home business industry, I have had to put serious thought into exactly what elements are most crucial for being the ideal business leader....I thought back to some of the mentors I have had who left positive lasting impressions on me and I began compiling a list of their most obvious attributes...
First of all, a good leader, whether in business or elsewhere, needs to have a clear vision as to the direction he/she wants to go in with a business....A business without a vision usually struggles, and most of the time will fail to succeed....Once the vision has been established, the leader will want to plan the necessary steps and strategies in bringing the vision to life....
Next, I believe that it is important for a competent leader to be a good teacher to the colleagues/employees he/she is responsible for leading...A leader can possess exemplary knowledge of a business, but without the gift of being able to convey that knowledge to others, the leader will lose the confidence of his/her followers...
Leading a successful business also requires a certain level of flexibility...It is good to go with "what is working" in a business, but one should also be open to new and innovative ways to do things...Many times, colleagues within a business will have suggestions and input for improvements...I think it is important to hear these ideas and take them into consideration...Sometimes change is good and can even cause a business to see growth...
Finally, great leaders must believe in their ability to lead...If employees or colleagues feel that they are being lead by someone who isn't confident in their skills as a leader, they will look to another for guidance....
Although I am still in the learning phase of becoming a businessperson and leader, and I am a work in progress, I can honestly say that I have learned, and am still, learning from one the the best leaders here in WA...Thanks for bringing me here...

Great blog Loris. I work full time as a Lieutenant in a Fire Department and Leadership is a big part of my job.
I always tell my team I don't expect you to do something I wouldn't do myself. I feel this to also be a key in leadership.
Liked your post. I think leaders also allow their peers and staff the opportunity to do. Leaders empower others and aren't threatened by their accomplishments.
I think with a vision for our business we also need to develop a plan. Something structured and laid out. Sure it will need to be tweaked but it should be a living document. I say this but I must admit to not being the best role model. Wondering if you've done this or have some thoughts about it? Thanks for your post.
As of right now,I am still in the learning phase of developing a business, but I believe wholeheartedly in well laid out plans and I believe that they should be updated and/or edited as needed....
