Pixabay Widget - Simple and Convenient

I just thought I would quickly share this. Most people will probably already know of Pixabay, but I have just come across a Pixabay widget, which enables Pixabay public domain images and photos to be easily found and added into any WP post, or page.

It's definitely quicker and easier than having to go to Pixabay and download a chosen photo, or image, to your laptop or PC and then upload it to WP.

The widget places a green button on every post and page in "Add" and "Edit" mode so you can search for and add an image as you type in your content.

Pixabay photos and images can be used for commercial purposes*, so can be used on commercial websites. I think it's going to be a seriously useful widget! You can find it by searching in the "Add Widget" area.

All the best,

Brandon

* As far as I am aware, all images and photos on Pixabay are free for commercial use, but if in doubt check out the website at http://pixabay.com. That said, I have seen a few images which seem to include trademarks, e.g. M&Ms; and a few of famous people, e.g. Tiger Woods. Personally, I would avoid using those, even though they are on Pixabay.

Hi Brandon, I am already using Pixabay widget. There is one issue, it find me picture but cannot actually add to the file, it says 'source not accessible' or something like that. So I save it by right-click etc, not a big deal in principle. Did you have such problems? is there something I should do in installation?

I used it to find and insert photos into a friend's site and I didn't experience any problems. I didn't need to put the Pixabay photos in the media library as I used to have to do prior to discovering the widget. When I used it, it was just a case of placing the cursor where I wanted the photo and then using the widget's pop up box which appeared on screen. When I was happy, I updated the page. Perhaps you are attempting to add it to the media library as would normally be the case if you weren't using the widget. Unfortunately, I don't have the log in details of my friend's site to check, so I am working from memory.

OK no worry, I shall check again as you say, but I am fine already with it. Thank you.

Hi,
Hope everything is going OK. I have been away on an Andrew Reynolds Bootcamp in Brighton and only just got back last night, otherwise I would have replied sooner.
All the best,
Brandon

Thank you this sounds useful.

Can you say a bit more: for example can you deactivate it when you have found the photo? And did you check manually that photo it gives you is indeed free for commercial use, because some of them are not free in the end.

Hi,
When logged into your website, if you go to "Plugins" in Wordpress, you will see all the plugins you have installed on your site. You can deactivate any plugin by selecting the blue "deactivate" link, (in the same way you activate a plugin by clicking the blue "activate" link).

Also, when I have used http://Pixabay.com in the past, I have noticed that the top row of results includes Shutterstock images, which I believe are there as advertisements. I have never used any of those, but presumably if you chose one, you would be taken to Shutterstock, where you would have to pay for it.

Boomer recently did a very helpful post here: I hope this helps,

All the best,
