Just over one month in.

Well, I am amazed it has only been one month since I have joined wealthy affiliate-it actually feels like at least two. I think this is because I have pretty much not missed a day where I didn't do something for my blog, or do some training or write comments for other people's websites, or just read other people's blog here. I am a little over half way through the initial 6 part course.I have done a fair bit I think, but thought I would have at least finished the 6 part course by now. This is probably the longest time ever I have been single minded about achieving success online and I am just so grateful to be part of this community! A big thank you to Kyle and Carson and everyone else who have been so helpful! I have learned so much.

I have written 12 blog posts so far and a few of my key words began ranking in google. One got to page 5 of google. Not so amazing, but at least they reached the first 20 pages. For some reason though now all those keywords are no longer there-they slip down pretty fast and I guess that is the reason why ongoing content creation is so vital.

I have managed to brand my site a bit as well as my social media pages so there is some consistency across the board. I just used canva.com to do some designing which make it so easy to come up with something that looks a quite presentable without having to hire a designer. Later down the track I will put more effort into branding, but right now I just want to build my google trust up.

I have begun working on a lead magnet which will be a recorded audio download for Tarot enthusiasts which I think (based on the research I have done) will be a point of difference compared to what is currently out in the market at the moment. It will also be my way to do some market research to see if the information product I have in my head will be worth pursuing further based on the interest and feedback I get from it. Once that is complete I need to go about getting an opt in box and set the auto responder up and the follow up emails people will receive after they have got my free thing. I think it is pretty important to start building an email list because as they say 'the money is in the list'. However, I will continue to blog and build trust within google and work on keywords, but I suspect further down the track I may need to work on some paid advertising and work out how I can at least break even or make a profit via this. I am sure there are many who are already doing this here, so I look forward to picking their brains when that time comes. In the mean time I will work on the free download.

I have also recently realised that this is going to take a lot longer than I initially thought it was going to take to start making money online that is anywhere near 100K per year. So, because my day job is unstable at the moment (retail), and I am only a casual employee (post baby) I have decided to do a fast track course in Pathology which I can be qualified in 4 and a half months which will enable me to get more stable work which will give me a more stable routine which will help me create a more stable work flow regarding the online business. I am a little worried I will lose focus while I study Pathology, but I just feel in the longer term picture I need to do this to better support my family and create a more stable base to come from. It feels like a lot of pressure to try and make this online thing work when you don't even have stable work underneath you in the present moment. I am committed to the online thing though, but am fast starting to see that it could conceivably be 5 years before I start to feel I can generate the income that I want online. What are your thoughts on this?

Thanks for reading!

I wish I can be as steady as you. Been few days premium and it felt like time passes by real fast. Too many things to do and a pushing myself. Knowing speed does not equal quality in my case. It is pretty stressful realizing I might lose focus on creating value to readers,

Hey Deborah, I completely understand what you mean and how you feel. The best thing you can do is set some weekly targets to reach and a schedule in which you will sit down to work. I felt a lot of overwhelm until I did this. It is so easy to get distracted online and go down a rabbit hole that is not even relevant to what you need to do in the present. If you can just settle in and set a schedule and accept this is your creative project on the side and that on some level you will always feel as if you are not doing enough, then you can actually be more productive. And if you can just do a little bit each day, that is better than nothing. Eg on days when I feel like I just don't have any time I will just go and get some comments on my blog and that will be it for the day. Good luck!

Good work and I think you're right about the list. I'm not there yet but it will happen soon ;-)

Good luck with everything!

Thanks Liz!

Good luck with your Pathology course and pushing forward here at WA :)

Thank you Jude! And good luck with your new direction too-I just read your blog. :)

Thanks Liz :)

I am new here too Liz but it shouldn't be that long , though! I would give up if it took 5 years to generate income. We'll see... Good luck to all of us.

Well, think about it this way. To make $100,000 per year you need to be generating $274 a day in commissions, every day of the year! Now I am not saying it is not possible, but that is a lot of content creation and living in hope that your stuff will go viral and even if it does, it doesn't mean you will make commissions out of it. Of course you could always decide to promote the highest value products ever, but if they don't resonate with your vision for your site and you end up just doing something for the money you will burn out and probably quit. I need to be passionate about what I am blogging about. I think that making your own products with some clever marketing and paid advertising will get you there more quickly. But that is a whole other thing to learn isn't it! So, I don't want to be negative, and I hope someone chimes in here and tells me I am dead wrong and shows me what they did with affiliate marketing alone in the space of 1 year and are earning enough to make a living from it, but so far I am not seeing many examples of people doing that. I am not wavering on my commitment (in fact I am more committed than ever) but I guess all I am saying is that if it takes me 5 years, I will still not quit, because I want this.
