$17,000 from one blog post over 2 years.

Last Update: July 06, 2018

It's been a while since I have blogged and the truth of the reason behind that is becasue I have been going in way too many directions at once. I have started new websites only to realise there is no way I can run all of them at once with the time that I have. I have the typical entrepreneurial disease-too many ideas and passions and shiny object syndrome. On top of that-I have a feeling of financial pressure which is also part of the problem of being focused. I keep looking for a 'better' option to bring money in faster.

So I had to sit down and get real. I looked at what's working already in terms of what I have done so far...and the truth is, most my income from blogging has come from ONE blog post on my very first website. It is a review post which has been sitting on page one position one of google for at least 18 months...It recently slipped to position 2, but hey-it's still there.

I had been doubting my niche and doubting my direction which is why I thought I should start more websites. But, the truth is, I think that until you have msstered the first site and have several blog posts sitting and earning on page one, you probably shouldn't start another website. This can get boring of course-but that is all part of the journey. Focus on one thing. Master it. Get the results. THEN move on....

So, I guess what I am saying is WRITE THE REVIEWS PEOPLE! And write reviews on products that are new to the market in some way. This is where I have had my biggest success. The timing was right, the keywords were right and the product is quality (it is an info product) Research the product, buy them. live them. Yes, this is slower and takes a lot of time. But I think it is actually the best long term strategy and your best chance of deliving real quality and value to your audience.

I will be refocussing once again. I think I might even take all the training again! Thanks for reading. :)

Thank you Liz for this authentic post.

I have noticed that as soon as we are done with the basic training, the mind gets so many ideas, the next step is already thinking of the next website, but as you say this takes so much time and work, we don't manage it.

In that phase I regreted the smooth phase of following the tasks in the training, being focused on the one step, so I began a training again, this gives me the external structure I need.

Focused action, have a nice weekend,
Anne

Great to hear that you have been able to make some cash with your blog post. That amount is pretty significant considering that it's only one blog post.

...MAN, I hope I'll get to Google's first page some day. (:

I've faced the same issues as you have. I've had so many websites too, and I've decided that I won't start a new one until I've made it an established business.

Good luck with your internet business!

WOW! ($17,000 / 2 Years / 1 Post) - You've hit the GOLDMINE!

Regards. Juhani

Hey there!

Just wanted to reach out and say that this post has inspired me. And, if you've inspired one, I promise you've inspired more.

Thanks for sharing your story. I am hoping so badly that I one day begin making money from my posts.

I will continue writing posts and doing my best just like you.

What kind of social media work do you do based on the training?

Thank you!

Hey Russell, sorry for slow reply. To be honest, I have not given social media much attention. I have a Facebook page and a Google plus account. But honestly, most my sales have pretty much come from SEO. I am now slowly building up a youtube channel as I know if I am consistent with uploads over the next 12 months it can be another great form of traffic to your site, but I think you'd be best just focussing on one social media platform and SEO before embracing anymore that that. It all takes so much time!

It was a great read for me, it looks like a lot me, Lol.

Focusing is damn hard sometimes as you mentioned, particularly when your head never stop telling you to try this or that, it's crazy.

I've learned one thing not so long ago, having many ideas don't mean you're smart, it just means you don't know what you should do in order to find success.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, it helps me a lot.

Thanks for sharing! This really helped because I also had two other niches and was going to put up 3 websites - I'm still new here on WA. I probably would've given up if I actually started creating all 3 websites because I'd have nothing done really, so yes! Definitely focus on one until we get results and thennnn move on!

Hi Omosomi, sorry I am unclear on what you are asking me? Which niche and who are your referring to? And what do you mean 'itemised product info'. Sorry, I am really confused...

My advice is to follow the training that is laid out exactly. It is excellent training, and you need to be dedicated to it and follow through on each suggestion within the training.

That ties into the blog post I just wrote here on WA. When you can, for the long-term success of your business, buy the product and live it to give real-world reviews based on your own experience. And even better if it's something brand new to your market that is of high quality and you write the content in a way that gets ranked.

Yep it does seem to work out the best that way! It is just that it is kind of slow that way, but the returns are there. :)

First of all congrats and thank you for sharing your experience! And yes, I can TOTALLY relate about going into multiple directions and not being able to focus on ONE thing only.

Once I started doing that with my latest Amazon niche website, things are definitely looking different and definitely are improving.

So, yeah, I agree 100%.

Thanks for this Liz, just what I needed, when I was having my morning chat with myself, when I went for my paper, the thought that came into my head was that I have too much going on, several websites on the ready to start, numerous other things all to do with as you say earning money. So I can really take a step back and have a good think this weekend.
Best wishes
Stuart

Yeah it has been a little bit of a lesson to me and I have decided that every time I have a new idea I am just going to write it down in Evernote and tag it as 'business idea' so I know that the idea is 'stored' somewhere and that I can always come back to it later. I have also begun to wonder if I have adult ADD! So going to really make sure I do this. I think people get so drawn to the 'laptop lifestyle' idea that they associate it with ultimate freedom and doing what ever you want whenever you want. That is obviously a goal, but I have learned that so much discipline is needed in order to arrive at that point-much more than just being a regular employee.

Liz, this is so true, I tend to get dragged off the path, must have more discipline.

Thank you Liz for this very pertinent advice. This is just what I needed to hear and now I have the big task of acting on what you have suggested. I have built about 10 sites and it is way too many to keep up with as you have found and stated in your blog post. .
I am going to have some time in the next few weeks so that is what I will focus on.

This is something that I have been internally fighting with myself. I keep seeing shiny objects but so far I have been able to keep myself focused on my one site.

What I found helped me while I was waiting for my pages to be indexed and ranked was to go back to my post and go over them and see where maybe I could improve. Whether it be updating the content or getting more relevant photos. It has helped me so far.

Thank you for your excellent and encouraging blog post-Liz. It is great that your blog post has stayed on page 1 of Google for so long, just imagine if you had multiple blog posts on page 1 of Google how much this could earn you!

I hear what you are saying about having too many websites, I have been there and there is only so much that you can do in a day.

Enjoy your weekend.

I know right??!1 That's what I keep kicking myself for at the moment-if I had just stayed the course, I'd be a lot further ahead now I think with less financial stress...but ahwell. Lesson learned...

The shiny object syndrome is what I call my problem. I always seem to start more than I can handle. You are right, master one before you move on. Wise words. I like your advise in writing reviews. This is something I have not done.

Thank You for sharing....

It think one of the reasons I didn't keep up with the reviews is because I thought 'surely it can't be that simple', and 'isn't that kinda boring?'. You see all these gurus online with their big brands and their multiple social media channels and their huge launches and big advertising budgets and you kind think you need to be aiming for all this too. But the truth is, in order to make money online, you really don't have to do much of any of that. Just find a topic that interests you. Check for affiliate programs. Ideally buy the product you want to review and be passionate about it. Research the keywords and write a good review. Rinse and repeat!

Awesome!! Hard to believe it is as simple as that. Your post clarified my first objective. I appreciate you sharing your insight and experience.

Can I ask? you choose the way to write a review is actually buy that item-> then use it-> then write a personal review on that product? how about at the beginning when you first write a review for the task in the training?

I am a fan of Pat Flynn from Smart Passive Income and that is what his advice is when it comes to effective affiliate marketing because when you really embrace the product you are more credible and speak from true authenticity. I am into info products and in the personal development niche so I feel this way is probably more relevant than if I were into physical products. I want to walk my talk if you know what I mean??
