My War On Network Marketing

Good day everyone. Today, while closing one of the more exciting deals of my life I decided to start a war. Not with a person, country or even bordering state but with an entire industry and one that creates wealth or the idea of wealth, teamwork, and so much more! An industry that lies, deceives and ruins relationships. No, I am not talking about the porn industry. I am talking about Network Marketing, MLM, Social Marketing or whatever word they came up with this week.
Yes, I started a war with an industry I am in and for the record, very happy that I am in. Confused yet? I am happy with this industry because I broke free of the "playbook for success" of a "proven system" that works as long as you follow it. I walked away from destroying my personal and professional relationships because I am asking them to get involved in inauthentic 3 way calls and staged house parties and pushing a "business opportunity" down their throats.
Do you know why network marketing companies have a bad rap? Douche bags? No, but there is a few and then again there is a few in all industries so it is not that. Because certain leaders have it in their head that you should push people to sell the business and not the product. I know this is obvious but it has to be said. People call network marketing a pyramid scheme because when you only sell the business, what is the buy in for?
Serious question. If you are selling the business, what is the buy -in for? Oh, now lets talk about the amazing product but really we focus on the business? Nah bro, that is not right. How can anyone that has, literally a life changing product "ONLY PUSH THE BUSINESS"? Why can't we sell what we believe in and share people how our product changed our lives? That resonates with people, doesn't it? Oh, wait! The product works that good that it heels people then after they stop using it because you lose your business? That is like a doctor praying for people to get sick.
Maybe that is the problem with the world really. We are all so driven by material things that we need more, more, more wealth so we are willing to compromise our own integrity and values by using psychological techniques or manipulation to "sponsor" people into business. Then leaders are surprised when people quit while spouting "it is a numbers game" like some kind of unholy mantra. There are brilliant minds in network marketing and there are also people who carry a false hope in their leaders thinking that doing everything they do will make you successful. Of course people feel that way, there are so many leaders that put them on the left hand of God! (Right side is for Jesus.)
Why can't Network Marketing run like a normal, professional sales organization? Before you say it does allow me to tell you that very few treat this like it was their own little business they set up because they believe in their products and they want to share it with the world. I do not doubt people work the business with sincerity and because they love their products. The business model fails most people because they are asked to push the business over products putting them in the position to look like con artist or part of a cult.
What if 3 way calls were not canned speech that is said to the other 400 people they spoke to that day? What if house parties where not staged and they were causal hangouts? What if people really told others about an opportunity they believed in that really helped them and they know you may be struggling and they think it could help you and your family? What if people really told you about a product that changed your life physically and they know you are about to have another back surgery AND THEY BELIEVE THIS CAN HELP YOU, because they mean it and do not have a ulterior motive. What if leaders really taught you proper business techniques to build your business in a way you could be proud of? What if all of the secrets to success where revealed?

Just something to think about... What about the psychology of traditional marketing? What about subliminal messaging? How are modern corporations not pyramid schemes?
I'm not involved with an MLM (in fact I was, but walked away bec although the product/service the company is selling truly helps people, I was not passionate about it), but I disagree with a lot of what you say, mostly bec I believe that it's just based off of what you know to be societal norms. In other parts of the world, networking marketing IS the norm. Does that mean they're doing things wrong?
When people passionately rant against the network marketing industry, to me it either means they did not have success in it or they are ignorant.
(This is not personal, but I am curious about why you feel so strongly. I don't mean from an emotional point of view, but from a factual, objective one...)
I just read your profile and it looks like you have been successful and are not ignorant about the MLM world, so it leads me to wonder why you feel negatively about this?
Again, I'm not saying there's nothing wrong with the system, but what makes it more wrong than traditional corporations and standard advertising?
At least when it comes to MLM, I know someone is trying to sell me something. When you see ads, it's mostly about the subconscious messaging that gets implanted in your brain till you suddenly realize that despite having a Macbook, an iPad, and an iPhone, you also want a SurfacePro... At least that's what I've noticed...
HI TravelHacker,
I am ranting against the old way of doing network marketing. I actually have been and am very successful in network marketing treating it like a professional business. I have it as part of my services that I offer in my company where I fulfill peoples needs in healthcare and aesthetics. I am very grateful for your feedback :)
