Hi everyone,
I've got a little problem with GP Primary Navigation.

I set the colour I want, but the moment I move away from it, an unattractive white stripe containi

Sounds like you have it under control configured. Is that the case?

Hi Abie+, yes, thank you! Tt was the browser. Chrome seems to get really clogged up quickly these days! Once I'd cleared the cache, it worked fine.

Thanks for checking anyway! And my space problem is cured too - using categories has really sorted that out!

Hope you're thriving and happy! 🍆🌺🤫

That's so great to hear, Lindi, I am glad you have your issues resolved :) Stay cool and enjoy the weekend.

will do! 🍆🌸

You're welcome :)

what's the url....

Hi feigner,
Thanks so much! 'd be grateful if you took a look.

https://jambhalawealth.com/how-to-attract-health-wealth-and-happiness-with-jambhala/

It's happening on other sites using GP too.

i have had a quick look at the site and the menu background stays yellow if i hover or move away...
not so keen on the colours - neither is the accessibility tool and says there is not enough contrast....
what browser are you using....
if firefox then when you visit your site -click the padlock next to the url and clear sitecookies and data....then oress f5 to refresh and see if that clears the error...
it is not showing any white for me, but maybe a default if the computer cannot resolve an issue...

I agree with clearing your cashe.

Also, try to minimize how many pages you open at one time. You may have made changes, yet, they are not yet reflected because you're looking at the wrong pager.
Or, by refreshing the page, the new changes appear.

Rudy

Feigner, you're great! Thank you!! I'm using Google Chrome and I cleared the cookies this morning!
Yes, I'm experimenting with the colour scheme but coming round to black and white in the end.

Glad you're not seeing this strange white stripe.

Thanks so much! 😎

Thank you! Will try.

Clearing the cache worked!! Thanks so much! 😎

Success! The cache was full I think! Thank you! I'll sort the colours out now!!

Youre welcome!
Its the little thibgs that trip us up!

Rudy

Sure is!!

Blessings. So glad you're there to fix me!!😎🙏🏼

You're very welcome😎

Rudy

Like Eric said, play around with it. Under colors, navigation, you options for the tab background as well as the tab colors. If tou still need help, let us know!

Rudy

Will do Rudy!

How the hell are you? I'm sorry. I'm SO busy with a million and one things—not much time for chatting. But I haven't forgotten about your LinkedIn profile.

Let me know where you're up to! I'm there all the time these days so really in touch with it!!

This white stripe occurs only on pc view. It's fine on mobiles. Nope! Tried everything in colours and layout - primary navigation. Can't find anything indicating a white background.

Hi there!

Oh yes, I've seen your activity on LinkedIn...grin.

I've also been busy paring down, have made some changes, and am looking forward to imolementing the new stuff.

No worries, we will catch up soon!

Rudy

Great Rudy! Glad we're working together, even though there's not much time to fraternize!

Hope the pool is going well!
🐲🐉🏴????????????????????????

This is because the you need to change the color of those navigation headings as well. 😎👍🏼 Keep playing with it and you’ll find there’s another selection and color change to be made so that the entire thing matches 💯

Thanks, Eric! Knew you'd come to the rescue! Have a shot on me!! 😎

Hi everyone, I've got so many posts on my websites now that the drop-down menus from my primary navigation are threatening to run off the screen!! LOL.

So, what's the be

Yep, exactly as Abie and Phil have said about having CATEGORIES as your menu items (although, they have a slightly different outlook from each other, LOL).

Okay, as an estimate, you can probably expect around 95% + of your visitors to make their way to your website VIA AN INDIVIDUAL ARTICLE.

This will typically be via links you've shared, say on social media, or if you are ranking for individual keywords in the search engines.

BUT

The point remains the same, the vast majority of visitors will come to your website via one of your individual articles.

The aim is to keep people on your website for longer or for them to perform an action that has the potential to earn you some money.

In order to keep people on your website for longer while visiting an individual article you should have internal links on EVERY SINGLE ARTICLE on your website.

These internal links should point to other articles on your website that are RELEVANT to what you have discussed in THAT SECTION of the article.

Another way to keep visitors on your site is through your TOP MENU and even your SIDEBAR.

BUT

you want to make this as EASY as possible while ensuring navigation appears simple and quick.

Therefore, as you've noticed yourself, having a large dropdown menu with loads of articles looks kinda "messy".

Messy = offputting = potential for people to leave your website

Plus, don't forget that a website is a business, and most of us start a business thinking that this is something we will do for the rest of our lives until we no longer can or want to.

Essentially, looking at a website in this respect you could easily have 10,000 articles on it by the time you "retire".

Clearly, you don't want those all showing in your menu items.

Okay, here's the "easiest" way.

All your "legal" pages and contact stuff, place them in the FOOTER MENU (so at the bottom of the page), this will contain your affiliate disclosure, privacy policy, dependent on niche, a health/medical disclaimer, and a contact form.

DONE

For your TOP MENU, you want to make navigation as easy as possible to ensure visitors "stay on your website".

So, the easiest menu items to have are HOME, then list ALL your categories, the ONLY thing I would have as a dropdown item is if some of your categories have a subcategory.

e.g. Category is "WordPress Tips & Tricks" and you have dropdown SUB-categories, such as WordPress Themes, WordPress plugins, etc.

But, apart from that, JUST have the actual category as a menu item.

As Abie has mentioned, it's pretty simple to just add the category url to the category menu item and then just leave it at that.

So, your top menu simply shows HOME and your categories, and if someone clicks on any item they will immediately be taken to that category page.

The only other thing I would have, based on what you've said, is to have a Menu Item That says something like:

My #1 Make Money Online Recommendation

And then for THAT menu item, you add the url for your Wealthy Affiliate Review.

Doing this means that whenever anyone clicks on one of your menu items they will be taken to a different page, i.e. no dropdown menus and they "leave" your homepage.

Hope that all makes sense.

Partha

Thanks Partha! what a great solution - almost a post in its own right! Thanks so much!!

It makes perfect sense!
👍✅🤩

Hi Charley! Have a look at Putting your content into categories I hope this helps.

Thanks Brian. Yes, I do know how to do this but it’s great to have this resource! thanks so much!

Blessings! I’m spoiled with so much help!
🙏🏼

You`re welcome, best of luck.

There's also MEGA Menus that you can use.

https://www.wpbeginner.com/plugins/how-to-add-a-mega-menu-on-your-wordpress-site-step-by-step/

I use the Blocksy Agency theme, and Mega Menus are part of the premium theme, which is all built-in. I can add media files to make it look appealing and interactive :)

This is great! I'll look into it!

You're a gem and a genie! 🍆🌸🙏🏼🍺

It's beer night tonight!! Yippeee!!!!

You are welcome, Lindi :)

You can hover over posts and click categories.

Create as many categories as you like; don't forget to add the slug.

Then, you can head to Appearance > Menus, and provided you create a menu first, you can start adding those categories.

Then, you can head to your posts and assign them to their respective categories. You can assign a post to more than one category.

So, when folks click on a specific category, they can see all related posts.

Hi Abie+. Thank you.

So, in my top navigation menu, should I only show categories?
I've got a list of categories in my side bar, too.

But that doesn't really answer the question about an excess of posts. Where can I store them so they're still accessible? In the categories list and not add them to the top navigation?

Yeah, you can do that; it's not an issue. Also, be aware that folks may land on any page of your website.

I won't list individual posts in the navigation except for the About Me post, Affiliate Disclosure and contact page, and any specific recommendable page, for example, "The Wealthy Affiliate Review" - unless I have a Mega Menu, then I can feature some articles include an audio or video file per category and other links where I strategically think folks should see and click.

Listing all is not a viable strategy.

MMMmmm! Great to know.
OK. I'm going to check out the Mega Menu plugin.

Np and please keep us updated on your progress :)

Will do! 🙏🏼🍆🍷

That's fantabulousness-ly lol

I like the Courgettes Flowers, lol

They’re gorgeous and delicious stuffed with mushrooms and wild rice! Yum😌

It's totally of sorts... lol I love my courgettes with yogurt cooked in a specific way with an egg stirred over low heat without bringing it to a boil. Then add ghee... The courgettes are stuffed with rice, lamb, nuts and spices.

OOOOO! I’m faint with ecstasy of anticipation. That sounds superb! I adore lamb and ghee! So it’s a kind of pilaf courgette? Gorgeous! I think Indian spices are the be-all! Do you grind your own?

I travelled around India for 6 months once and learned from some of the greatest chefs on Earth!

It’s time to sleep here so you can be sure of what I will be dreaming of! Thank you for this superb bedtime story!!

🇮🇳????🥺

I learned that recipe when we visited Bahrain :) It was a while ago, and I still do them: salt, pepper, dried mint, and seven-spice mix. Yeah, I have pestle and mortar :)

Goodnight Lindi, sleep well...

You're among the few people I know who will admit to owning a pestle and mortar! I think it's heavenly grinding spices by hand.

Bahrain? Mmmm. It's a beautiful place, but it's so troubled nowadays! Shame! I'm glad you were there when it was going well.

I hope you are sleeping well, cocooned in your wrapping of burgeoning eggplants and decadent flowering courgettes!

I have some more ideas for products on your eggplant site!

Later!

Lindi
🙏🏼😘🍆
PS: We should complain to Emoji because the selection does not include a single courgette or courgette flower. Is there one?

Lol, I looked that up, too :) There isn't... Maybe they don't like courgettes, lol. I am giggling here :)

I came up with a brilliant idea just yesterday :)

Children’s Educational Content, with storytelling covering the topic and a specific character I have in mind. I have started the structuring, lol. What do you think?

Sounds perfect! What's you main character's name?

🍆

Abie lol

Hi Abie+, everyone who jumped in to help,

I just wanted to let you know that I succeeded with categories—they make everything much neater and better organized for me, too! So, I knuckled down and chose my categories more carefully.

I've also looked at mega menus and think I will use this when the coast is clear. I'm so glad to know about it!

🌺🍆🌸😎

Abie+, Good Day/Night!! Have a good day/night! etc. LOL!

Here's an addition for the aubersite (oversite, ha)). I'm enjoying playing with these words.

This is an aubercoat to get to school in the rhubarb patch!

How 's the story coming?

Woohoo, congrats :) Late response better than never lol

Thank you Abie+. Don't worry about being late!!
Btw, what d'you think of the aubercoat?

Have a great day harvesting and snipping ripe fruit from the stem!! 🍆🌸

I am writing content for the day. It's Very impressive. Thank you :)

🌸

Wow for me :)))))))

Yep!

🌸

🌽

:)

Don't archive them, just make sure that each one has the applicable categories.

Then make your drop-down menu item categories. Each category will contain the relevant blog posts.

Hi Phil. Thank you.

Yes, I've done that, but in some categories, I've got more posts, so they go on past the bottom of the scroll and are difficult to select. I don't want to have too many headings in my top menu, but do you think I should just add more categories there?

And there will come a point where I can't fit them all in coz I'm creating them like wildfire! What then?

I've installed the WP archive plugin.

Lindi
Hope everything's going well!

I simply don't have any issue with long drop-downs. They emphasize that I have lots of content.
