I Was Afraid to Narrow My Niche Until —
I did the research! I've read a lot of posts where people are concerned a narrow niche will limit their ability to have enough information and topics to write about. That was me! I had the same concerns which triggered this research.
I Love Nature — A Very Broad Niche!
My niche is nature — and I love all aspects of nature. It's in my DNA! I’ve often thought about going with one of the more popular and lucrative niches, but I just can’t. This is where my heart is.
However, even I knew my chosen niche was extremely broad. So, I narrowed it down to gardens, both vegetable and ornamental. I've been a landscape designer for 17 years, and this is my passion. So, I have the passionate part down.
Getting Narrow Required Trust
Yes, I needed to trust Kyle and all of you amazing people who teach us the best ways to become successful at this career.
Reading one of Kyle's posts on narrowing your niche, I began to realize I was still too broad. Where do I go from here? I was convinced I’d run out of topics to write about. I started to make a list of the things I felt I could write about in what I felt was a “narrow enough” niche, and the list was a short one.
AI — Scary to Some but a Useful Tool
In a writing course I belong to, I watched a video on ChapGPT (a popular AI chatbot) discussing how many writers are concerned this conversational chatbot will take over their jobs. The consensus is it won’t. I found the research features available in this tool is nothing short of AMAZING!
In my struggle to go narrower with my niche and my very short list of ideas increasing my fear of not having enough topics, I decided to try this chatbot. I ask it for a list of 20 topics on gardening which it quickly gave me.
Drought Tolerant Is My Jam!
From this list, I chose a narrower niche — drought tolerant gardens. I did research on drought tolerant gardens and found people have a lot of pain points about water shortages and being able to keep their landscapes beautiful. I found how I can genuinely serve people within this narrow niche.
Being excited about this new (to me) chatbot resource, I asked for 20 topics on this new narrow niche and repeated this request several times. Within 20 minutes I had 90 topics I could write about. And, I could have gotten many more, but I felt 90 was enough to get me started!

Thank you! I do finally feel like I'm on the right path. I've always known my path was somewhere in the nature niche. It just feels good to narrow down. For me, it makes it so I can see my target much clearer. I appreciate your comment.
