Focus on the future 2018

Lately, while I have read through many other WA posts, I have noticed the word focus quite a bit. It is a word that we use quite often. It means to have a center of interest or activity.
Sometimes to concentrate on something can be almost impossible to do, with the distractions that can pop up and get in your way.
Focus occurs when you eliminate all other options but one. When you are able to block the lest important options leaving you the one that is the utmost important at the moment then productivity is accomplished.
Multitasking
We have, for years, prided ourselves of multitasking, but the truth is multitasking is impossible because you can only concentrate on one thing at a time. An example if you would like to try, is, when you are on your phone with someone and having a conversation with another person in the same room as you, who is your focus on, as you talk to each person? Your brain doesn't focus on both people, it bounces back and forth.
Four Steps To Action
First, you will want to eliminate the obvious distractions, such as the television, your phone or music.

Second, make a list of 5 things you would like to accomplish that day.
Third, go back through it and number it, as 5, being the least important and 1, being the most important.
Forth, forget about 2 through 5 and focus only on #1.
Feedback
As we have all done at one time or another, including myself, we tend to lose focus on what we are doing. A good way to help to keep your focus on your task at hand is to be able to measure what you are doing. Measuring, lets us know if we are making any progress and it helps to maintain concentration and focus. And when we make progress we get a feeling of fulfillment.
Remember, measuring is not a judgement it is just feedback, to let you know you are making progress with the task we have set out to do. When you focus on your progress as a part and not the goal as a whole this will lead to more results in the long run, with less frustration. The goal then becomes a long term measurement, using the short term progresses as the steps to reaching and achieving the goal.
