How to Convert Speech to Text from Video File
Currently, ChatGPT doesn’t process video or audio files directly. However, you can still transcribe the speech from a video (or audio) file by using one of these approaches:
- Use a Transcription Tool
- Extract Audio and Use Speech-to-Text APIs
- If you prefer a DIY approach, you can separate the audio track from your video using free tools (like VLC Media Player or an online converter).
- Then, use a cloud-based Speech-to-Text API from providers like Google Cloud, Amazon Web Services (AWS Transcribe), or Microsoft Azure to generate a text transcript from the audio file.
- Upload to YouTube
- Copy YouTube's auto-generated speech to text file
- Import it into ChatGPT and ask it to modify the format for a blog post.
- Add blog post to your website and use image captures from your video file as images.
After you get the transcript from any of these methods, you can copy it into ChatGPT if you’d like to refine the text, summarize it, or expand it into a blog post.
Pro Tip: Whichever method you choose, always review and edit the transcript for accuracy—automatic transcriptions are often very good, but not 100% perfect!

I actually do a related approach for some of my Youtube videos by taking a WA Blog post and adding it to Youtube and I read the text while showing the post.
Thanks for sharing Wallerdog!

Actually, I've thought of that, but this time I felt it was easier to record my process with video, upload to Youtube and then create an article from the YouTube video for my website.
No worries. There are many ways of doing things and some will resonate better with others. Much appreciated for what you offered.

You betcha! Anytime I come up with a question and figure out an answer I'll try to share it in the future, as well.
And, you are right! There is almost always more than one way to get the job done!
Cheers!

Hi Les!
Thanks for sharing this!
I personally use Descript, and it’s an absolutely wonderful tool.
All the best,
Boris
I'll try it out today, I'm working on another post so it's worth a try.
Thanks!
