I already own a VPS of my own as I own a few personal websites. I setup my own WA Blog for my particular niche I'm interested in although now I'm on Course 2 Lesson 6 - I'm not
The only domain name I have hosted at WA is one I use for testing themes and plugins. I can't participate in the Site Comments but I get organic comments on my 'real' websites anyway. You can participate by creating a Site Rubix subdomain and use that for practice.

My site is not hosted here and I get comments here still from certain comment threads available for sites that are not hosted here. :) Need website comments? the give and take comment thread So I'm here just for the training and the community. :)
My site isn't hosted with WA either and that's what I do too. And I can still submit my site for SiteFeedback which is good.
That's great! Yes, use all the resources you have here... I'm not sure if I want to transfer to here one day or just start another here in the future. But the training here alone is SO worth the membership... so hosting is not big thing for me to be here. :)
