I am having trouble picking a niche - I am interested in longevity, health, fitness, beauty, fashion and diet for the over 60s, but I'm not sure how to narrow this down to a ni

You COULD go with a broader brand and cover all your topics. Health & Beauty for women over 60 could definitely be a large authority site!

Otherwise, you can break down all the things you mentioned. Your niche could be:

fitness for women over 60
makeup for women over 60
fashion for women over 60
anti-aging for women over 60

Any single one of those could be a thriving website too. It just depends on which products YOU are most interested in talking about and WHO you want to talk to on your website. Which audience interests you most?

I decided to start my first site on just 1 type of product "Collagen" to get the hang of website building again (it's been a long time) but would like to get an authority site up and running next. Back in the days of Squidoo I used to make a good income with affiliate marketing but when that shut down I moved over to print on demand which is getting harder and harder as all the make money online gurus have jumped in there with both feet in the past couple of years. My poor husband has had to go back out to work again - he was in the Royal Air Force for 25 years and has "retired" 3 times now, but his military pension is not anywhere near enough to keep us. So this has to work for me! I am going to give it everything I've got for 3 years, my retirement "deadline"!

I'm in the over 60 niche myself. The best way I can think of would be to start with comparing the various niches side by side. Go to Google Trends and you can do that there. It will also tell you which areas (states if you are in the U.S.) show the most interest and then if you click on each of those areas, it will open up even more to let you see which cities offer the best choices.
