Since the beginning of December 2019, CoViD19 spreads all over the globe rapidly and in unprecedented pace, brought enormous destructions to global economy and life. It continues to bring change to human lives. I just would like to tell you a true to life experienced of a 74 y.o. female who had been in her near death ordeal last August 21, 2020 and this is the story of her life.

Last August 16, 2020, she felt occasional cough associated with mild to moderate grade fever accompanied by chest pain, easy fatigability, body pains and generalized body weakness. Then on August 21, 2020 she called up her physician for a checked-up because the symptoms was unbearable, and she went to the hospital and was diagnosed to be a Covid19 suspsect patient. She want to be admitted in the hospital because the above signs and symptoms beginning to worsens. But to her surprised the hospital won't accept her and was refused for admission. And it was decided that she will be referred or transferred to another hospital which will took a 4 hours travel to be reached. Since no management was done...she went home suffering with the signs and symptoms of severe CoViD19 pneumonia. And at home...they called a local physician to treat her and thus medically managed her at home.

On the day of the physician's visit, she was found out having difficulty of breathing, febrile with chest pain and had occasional cough. Her chest x-ray revealed fluids on her right lung with pneumonia in her both lower lung base, lymphopenia with moderate anemia on her complete blood count with normal electrocardiogram result. Intravenous antibiotics was started together with novel repurposed drugs for CoViD19 was also given. Oxygen inhalation and pulse oximeter was also recommended but its not available in the area.

Then on the second day home visit management, the patient still had occasional fever, cough and bouts of difficulty of breathing with chest pain and whole body weakness with poor appetite. An injectable anti-clotting drug was started once daily.

On the third home visit management, the above signs and symptoms worsened, she was now having bluish discoloration of the lips and nailbeds, rapid breathing was also observed with restlessness and cold clammy sweats, and several bouts of near loss of consciousness was also noted together with elevated blood pressure. Emergency treatment was instituted with high flow oxygen was given via her nose with oxygen saturation of 67% initially. Intubation was not done. The local department of health representative do a serological test to her and revealed IgM and IgG positive for Sars CoV-2. Nasopharyngeal swab was not performed to her due to fear of aerosolization. The patient was in sitting position most of the time due to the severe diiffculty of breathing. During the night of that same day, the patient showed some improvement of her very guarded status and slowly gained minute and steady recovery.

Then on the fourth home visit, the patient gradually seems showed some improvement and slowly ate her breakfast. Her oxygen had increased to near normal level of 87% ranged.

And in the succeeding days of the her home management, the patient fully recovered and was discharged on the tenth day home treatment in a very much improved status.

Then a week after, she visited the physician's office fully recovered and with vigor. She was very thankful that she was able to survived that ordeal that nearly ended her life.

She was the first documented case of CoViD19 positive patient with severe symptoms that was medically managed at home and was luckily able to survived with God's guidance in our locality.

The physician that risked his very own life and accepted the challenged of treating her at home is no other than your humble servant in health...Dr. Laertes B. Amihan MD.

I do agree with that xfactorlic..."an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure"... hopefully a good vaccine with minimal adverse events/effect will be available soon. Thanks!

Yes Highlife101!...As a doctor, I can't turn my back from the sick and the needy. Keep safe always! your appreciation brings enormous inspiration to my heart to do more...

What a remarkable recovery and a great story. I am so happy she was able to overcome this horrible illness. Thanks so much for sharing the story. It underlines the fact that we all must "put on our big girl panties" and wear masks and social distance from others to avoid spread.

Yes...thank you so much LMH1968! I underwent 14 days self quarantine after my treatment to her and i'm free again to attend to my patients in the clinic. The cases is still rising steadily here but its more of mild uncommon symptoms and mix with asymptomatic ones. The uncommon symptoms now are dizziness, inability to sleep or lack of sleep, palpitations and blood pressure elevation, facial itchiness or even low back pains. keep safe always!

Well done!
Thanks.
Joe
