Give It a Face, and Where the Character Community Goes Next.

This week's challenge is built around characters, and it comes with a question I genuinely want your answer to.

The image at the top is me, or rather my character in Cast, sharing a room with a feeling. That is the challenge in one frame.

This week's challenge: Give It a Face

Take a feeling and give it a body.

Pick an emotion you know well and design it as a creature. Not a symbol or a metaphor, an actual living thing with a shape, a size, and a way of moving. Something that could sit in a room with a person and take up space.

The trick is behaviour, not meaning. Something restless might be small and fast and always just out of sight behind you. Something heavy might barely move at all, and might have made itself comfortable. Scale next to a person can tell the whole story on its own, and where the creature sits in the room says as much as how it looks. The strongest entries are rarely the obvious reading, so ask whether yours is frightening, pitiable, funny, or oddly good company.

The marketplace, and what we are planning.

Here is where characters are heading.

You will be able to publish characters you have built so others can add them to their own Cast. When someone uses your character in their work, you get a kickback. Build a character people want, and it earns while you sleep.

The other side matters just as much. Adding characters that other people have built will cost you nothing. Need a chef, a detective, a tired office worker, a creature from a challenge you loved? Someone may have already built it, and you can bring it into your scenes without starting from scratch.

This is the plan, not the finished product, and that is exactly why I am asking now.

How do you see your character community growing?

Would you build characters mainly for yourself, or to publish? What kinds of characters do you think will be in demand? Would you want to follow creators whose characters you use? Should there be challenges where the character itself is what gets judged?
