Beer with Kyle: AGI Is Closer Than You Think (And Why That's Exciting)

The big topic this week is AGI, or artificial general intelligence. The timelines are compressing FAST, and I want to share where things are at, what it actually means, and why I think it represents an enormous opportunity for the layperson with ideas.

This week I am going back to my favorite. Fat Tug IPA by Driftwood, a local brewery here in Victoria. I have done this one before on the show, but it just felt like a Fat Tug kind of Friday. It is on basically every live tap in Victoria. Bars, pubs, restaurants. You go in and order a Fat Tug and it is right there on draft. Nice color, great taste, exactly as I remember it. Cheers.

What AGI Actually Is.

Before I get into anything else, let me explain what AGI means, because there is a lot of confusion around the term.

AGI stands for artificial general intelligence. It refers to an AI system that can match or exceed human cognitive abilities across essentially any intellectual task, rather than being good at just one. That is the key difference between AGI and what we call narrow AI. Narrow AI is the chess engine that crushes grandmasters at chess but cannot do much else.

What we are seeing now is something in between. AI is getting really good at MANY different things at once. It can curate ideas from different fields, pull insight from millions of data points, and bring them together in ways no individual human could on their own. If you are using AI for idea development, intensive research, or anything that requires synthesizing across disciplines, you already know how powerful that is.

In simpler terms, AGI is AI that can think and learn like a human across any subject. Super intelligent. Better than humans at virtually everything, all contained in one entity. That is where we are headed.

The Timeline Is Collapsing

Here is the part that should make you sit up.

I looked at a chart that tracks predicted AGI arrival dates over the years, and the timeline keeps shrinking.

In 2020, the predicted arrival of AGI was 2045. That was the consensus.

In 2022, right around when ChatGPT was released, that estimate dropped.

In 2023, more advances came, and the prediction shortened to around 2033.

By 2024, I was hearing 2030 or 2031 from most experts.

In 2025, it shortened again by a couple of years.

And now in 2026, the predicted arrival is 2028. Some people are even saying late 2026, though I think that is overshooting. My personal read is that 2027 is viable, and 2028 is very much in play.

When you really sit with that... we are talking about a tool with superhuman intelligence in our hands within the next year or two. If you think AI is powerful now, just wait.

Claude Fabel 5 and the Race Between Models

Anthropic just released Claude Fabel 5, their latest model. And what you are seeing across the industry is these models leaping over each other constantly. It is an ongoing, very competitive race between all of the major players, and the pace is incredible.

I have been leaning toward Claude for most of my work lately. I still use ChatGPT and Gemini for certain things on a more limited basis. I do use Grok just to test it, but personally I find it the weakest of the four. That said, everyone has different use cases, and people gravitate to different tools for different reasons.

Every leap forward in these models makes US more capable. That is what I want you to take away from this.

The Real Opportunity Hidden Inside AGI.

Now let me talk about the part that gets me genuinely excited.

There is a real fear that comes with the AGI conversation. The Terminator scenario. AI making decisions on its own. AI building things on its own without us in the loop. Those are valid concerns, and they are worth talking about.

But here is the other side of the coin. AGI is going to take an enormous amount of power AWAY from the agencies and big corporate entities that were built around their ability to organize people. The old advantage was the ability to wrangle 500 or 1,000 people toward a goal. That was the moat.

What happens when you do not need those organizational skills anymore? What happens when you can scale your idea from your home, without 1,000 employees, and accomplish the same thing a large company used to?

That is the world we are stepping into. Ideas become the most valuable currency. Communication of those ideas becomes the most valuable skill. The ability to work alongside AI to build whatever you want, that is going to define who succeeds.

I know many of you are already doing really sophisticated work with AI agents. People are writing novels. People are designing apps. People are building businesses they would have never even attempted before. That is the new playing field.

How This Shapes What We're Building.

So what does any of this mean for us at Wealthy Affiliate?

Carson and I are building faster than ever, and better than ever. Many of you have access to the closed Creator beta right now. We have around 35 people in there at the moment, including a few who won their spot through the weekly challenges. The community inside Creator is already really active, and we are aiming for the full rollout to the wider WA community on July 1st. We have a few significant integrations going in before then.

On the WA side, we are still focused on the full rebuild. The problem with most software, including the original version of Wealthy Affiliate, is that it was pieced together over many years using older approaches. Layer after layer added on top of older code. That has been the norm across the whole industry up until really the start of this year.

We are moving to a different world now. You can build things much more efficiently with AI as a tool, but you have to start with a proper foundation. That is exactly what we are doing with Wealthy Affiliate. Once that foundation is in place, we move into what I would call hyper development mode. You give us feedback on Monday, and we can ship something meaningful by the end of the week. That is the state we are moving the platform into, and it is going to move at a pace it has never moved before. By a significant multiple.

You Are Going to Be 100x Yourself.

Here is what I really want you to hear today.

AGI is going to lead the layperson to be able to create more than ever, with less of the traditional capability barriers than ever. You do not need to be an organizational expert. You do not need millions of dollars. You need ideas, you need to be able to communicate those ideas, and you need to be able to work with AI to build whatever it is you want to build.

You are already very capable now with the current state of AI. Use it. Get good at it. Stay current. Because if you are not using it, you are limiting your own ceiling at the exact moment when the ceiling is being raised for everyone else.
