There is a system in the brain that science has identified and calls the Reticular Activating System. I like that name and it holds special meaning to me. It was a term I learned 40 years ago in a different context from the scientific vernacular.

Science defines the RAS as the major brain system that allows us to regulate our sleep and waking cycles. It is also important in others body systems like breathing, heart beating and others. It has a role in behavioural motivation and affects the ability to consciously focus attention on something.

That is a far as I intend to go in medical scientific nomenclature. I first heard the term from a speaker in a sales training system for my first corporate job in the 70's. He used the term in a different context as he was discussing goals setting. You ever find a new (to you) car that you just love the looks of, buy it, drive it, and suddenly seem to notice that there is an identical car in every neighborhood you traverse? He called that the Reticular Activating System. Something that becomes important to you, has 'pay value' as he framed it you begin to attract and notice evidence of your new shiny toy.

I do believe that such it is with anything you focus on. It is a simplified concept of the Title of Napoleon Hill's great book, 'Think and Grow Rich". Once you immerse yourself consciously into a project, goal, direction and focus your visualization on that you start attracting, noticing things around you that are the same or similar.

This has been my experience at WA these first 3 months. I started out strong and enthusiastic as I am certain many do. I ran quickly through the first several boot camp lessons and built my website before my mind conceived the genesis of an ide that has become my chosen passionate niche. I worked through the first set of lessons in the certification course and built a second exciting page for my blog. As I was doing this I also was practicing my 'elevator pitch' for when friends and associates inevitably asked "What are you doing now?

Suddenly it seemed as if doors that I had never considered began to flash open. A ministry I have been involved with asked me to help them complete their website and set it up to receive donations. Others asked me to help with their site or business plans. This past week my ex business partner called me out of the blue (after 4 years) and offered me to contract with his firm to create an online marketing strategy and implement it. All these opportunities only became visible to me after I was focusing on this direction. My RAS is working!
