When Triumph is an imposter...

I can really identify with the lines from Rudyard Kipling's poem IF:

If you can dream-and not make dreams your master,

If you can think-and not make thoughts your aim,

If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster,

Yet treat those two imposters just the same.

This past week, triumph has visited me. I am now a paid musician in my church, and I started a new position at my job that lines up better with my major. It's been a bit overwhelming, but where I could really see how it was affecting me was in the amount of time I was spending working on my business. Or should I say the amount of time I wasn't spending on my business. I was so glad at the direction my life was going that I heard that old acquaintance knocking at my door. You know the one. The guy who arrives uninvited, but makes you feel so good that you invite him in. He stays for a while until you become sickened by his very presence. You try to move him but he won't budge.

We all know him. His name is COMPLACENCY.

I was actually toying around with the idea of cancelling my subscription and just giving myself time to settle into my new position at work. And since I'm now getting paid at church, I was thinking that I really should re-double my efforts on that front as well.

Thankfully for me, I am quite familiar with my old friend Complacency, so I knew those were his ideas, not mine.

I know that my current job is not where I want to be. While I want to do as good of a job as I can while I'm still there, I don't need to sacrifice my goals in order to become a better worker bee. And what better way can I be more available for my church than to be able to eventually have my own internet based business where I set my hours? So if and when I am needed, I can be available?

So with all that said, I am going to finish level two of the certification training and hopefully be well within level three by this weekend! I'm back at it! Wish me luck!

I wish you luck!!!

Thanks! I am constantly trying to reshape my thoughts to enjoy the journey. I think many times when an event happens, whether it be good or bad, we tend to focus on the event. I know that personally, I tend to dwell on events and not on the actions that led up to them. And that's why I am constantly trying to reshape my thoughts to realize that my actions determine the events that happen. So the more we can make progress toward our goals, the more certain that we will reach them.

Thanks again for reading, and I hope that made sense!

Great advice! It seems that uninvited guest gets around, lol. I can see what you mean. This past February I switched to a different department at my workplace and went to part time instead of full time, which I thought would help so that I could get more accomplished on my websites with more time. Well, it seems after awhile that uninvited guest, complacency, came around here too.

Although I'm happier, sort of, in my new department, I realize that it is not where I want to be either. Not for any longer than I absolutely have to anyways. Thanks for the reminder!
Best wishes to you!

Great post- think you have more than luck going for you.
