New Year, New You?

I just enjoyed he holidays with my family and my husbands family.... Life always steps in and forces me to remember how hard we have to work just to exist.

Resolutions

Every year, billions of people make new year resolutions. The joke is: 80% of Americans fail their resolutions by February, and probably much higher percentages than that the following month. So, why do we keep doing this failing tradition?

The "resolution" we typically attribute New Year's to is defined as "a firm decision to do or not do something." Maybe this is why we fail. We are just living in a black and white, do or do not world. We're a million shades of all colors. We are more complicated than do or do not. Aren't we?

In life, resolution is defined as "the action of solving a problem, dispute, or contentious matter." Why isn't THIS the resolutions we seek? We wouldn't make new years resolutions if we didn't want something to change in our lives. There is not anything wrong with resolving to do or not do, but for the majority of us, we need action.

New Year, New You?

You don't have to be a new you to be the best version of yourself. I've made plenty of (failed) resolutions:

  • do NOT drink soda
  • DO workout daily
  • do NOT consume processed foods
  • DO lose weight
  • do NOT listen to people who are unking
  • DO eat healthier
The truth is, life gets "in the way." I can commit and resolve to do or not do all of these things. I am typically pretty good for following through with them, for several months, but something always comes up. Something interferes or distracts from the resolutions, from goals.

So forget the "New Year, New You!" mantra that is expected. Make plans to resolve problems. Instead of do or do not, what about do less or do more? Create actions plans for outcomes instead of just shooting out do and do nots.

You Don't Have To Win At Everything

You really do not have to "win" at everything or successfully complete every resolution, and you shouldn't try to. Take a moment and picture what you want for your life over the next year or five years or ten years. What's the outcome you want?

Do you want to be successful? How and in what ways? Is it money? Weightloss? Education? There is no definitive plan for how you can achieve your success. You'll need to create your plan and more importantly, you'll need to accept that you'll be thrown off from life. Something is going to interupt your diet, something is going to get injured when you work out, the economy in your area could take a dive, you could experience a loss, anything could happen.

I am always the type of person that gets overwhelmed, but is eager to "over" achieve. So I'm always trying to win or be the best at EVERYTHING. This was also true when I started out on Wealthy Affiliate. I created so many different sites, trying to perfect them and be good at ALL of them. I failed and grew frustrated, and if you're like most people, you will too.

New Year, Do You!

So at the end of he day, week, month, year, you have to "do you." You will find your own way, don't focus on what you do and do not do. You can improve and become a better version of yourself. It takes time and don't let the sparkle of the new year dim your goals with weight and pressure. If you slip up, just pick it righ back up. We all have had dreams before, your life is a reality, it doesn't have to just be a dream. This is the New Year, DO YOU!
