With Amazon, they say copy and paste the code into your website. All it looks to me is just a lot of letters and numbers. How can my customers use that? I don't see any images

You have to create a link with all those letters and numbers...
You put them behind the link to Amazon and then you create a link to an image or some text...
Like you do link to pages internally on your site...
