About Kirstenerika
Joined December 2018
I'm a new psychotherapist with a MSc in Clinical Psychology and a passion for writing. My plan is two-fold: to create a profitable niche website in one of my areas of expertise and to create a successful counselling private practice, starting with my own website/ blog to market my counseling services. I decided recently after going to numerous job interviews that if I have the choice, I don't really want to work for anyone but myself. My dream is to split my time between counselling my ideal clients and writing for my websites, all while having the freedom to travel as I please.

When I'm not writing or counselling, I'm often found ambushing dogs on the street, wandering in forests, surrendering to the power of yoga, or being a goofball.

I'm completely new when it comes to all things business-related, but am motivated to learn. Please don't hesitate to connect or shoot me a message. There's a power in the knowledge of our collective here at WA :)

H!! And welcome to WA Premium!! You will not regret your decision to go Premium! The information available here is never ending! And the training is incredible, and you won’t find anything like it, anywhere else!! Take it ALL in!!

Follow the training! I cannot stress this enough. Do not skip around. Do the lessons in the order in which they are. As well as the tasks that follow each of those lessons. I often jumped ahead in my training, to only later really regret it. Take my word for it, it’s not worth it. Stay on course.
Go at your pace. Slow and steady is my new rule. You'll find you can't wait to learn more in the following days. You’ll want to learn more!! It ignites a new passion within you. It did me! Gave me back my purpose for living! There were a few lessons that I had to watch twice. If that's what you have to do, do it!

And soon you will have yourself an awesome website. Amazing direction, and the tools that you need to succeed in whatever it is you want to do!

You CAN do this!!

Be awesome! Be amazing!! And be successful!!!

Hi! Thank you, same to you!

I actually did skip a bit, because I had written some content and wanted to finish it off by learning how to add affiliate links, so I cheated, but I'm definitely going back to complete everything I skipped step by step :) my website got ranked by google today so i think it was worth it - great advice though.

Yes I'm feeling a lot of passion and motivation to write about what i love, and potentially earn a living from it.

Best of luck to you!

Hey Kirsten! Congrats and welcome to WA premium!

I think the most import thing to do with any new venture is to "plug in" and be consistent. Schedule time each day to do the training, work on your site and write content. You'll find that content is king. :)

Here's to great success with your WA journey and online endeavors!

Hello and welcome to Premium. This website is full of wonderful helpers and I have learnt to always use the search tab at the top of the desktop, the answer is usually in someone's free training. Type in topic, rather than long question.
There is an answer to just about every question, all you need to do is ask..
Aside from the Certification and Bootcamp courses, there is heaps of extra training. Check out the training classrooms as well as the live events. There are current as well as past events in here. You can find both these tabs on the left-hand side
Start playing with tabs and boxes on your dashboard, there is so much hidden information, just keep looking for it.
Enjoy Wealthy Affiliate. There are lots of people here only too happy to help you along the way with encouragement and helpful tips. Wealthy Affiliate is about training, but that is just a small part of this wonderful community. If you participate as well as train, you will gain so much more.

Welcome. Don't give your "newness" on business a second thought. If you are smart enough to earn a degree in psychotherapy you can most certainly do this. :-)

In terms of the business and technology side, you will learn everything you need to know in the training program.

The key to success online isn't found in some random line of code... the REAL key is found in your heart. As long as you are creating content you are passionate about, you will be amazing!

Thank you for the warm welcome :) I'm almost kicking myself for not moving into the online business world sooner. I've always been more of a non-profit type of person, but when I realized I could provide the most ethical services by going private as a counsellor, I had an urgent need to learn about business!

I had so much fun researching about it I thought - well I love writing, maybe I can make money online as well?

We'll see what happens, but I am totally hooked on WA.

So true to go with our heart - I know that for myself I need to be following my energy and coming from a place of genuine care for my audience.

I hope things are going well. I know you are getting rolling within the training and there is ONE thing that always tends to confuse people and that is "what is my niche?".

I know, same thing happened to me when I started.

I just wanted to reach out and let you know that I am here if you ever want to run any niche "ideas" by me or you have any questions about finding your niche.

Get back to me when you get the chance! :)
Reply
kirstenerika Premium
Thank you. Choosing my niche is definitely where I'm feeling a bit stuck so far! You suggested thinking about problems I'd want to help people with. As an emerging therapist, I'm kind of going in the business of that, but I want to start smaller. Two ideas I had were

1. A website for natural sleep remedies similar to the example of the pre-workout supplements with a database of alternatives to medication such as supplements, therapy, alternative treatments, weighted blankets, etc. It would be a bigger project, as I would either have to review all the products myself (even though I haven't tried them all?) or have large enough traffic for customer reviews, like the pre-workout example in your video. It's definitely something I could blog at length about though and really care about, since I had quite severe insomnia for 4 years and wouldn't wish it on anyone.

2. shoes for women in large sizes (lol). I'm 6'0 and size 11 in shoes. I always struggle to find options online, which is usually my default as many stores don't carry much in person. I'm thinking if there was a way for me to have all the styles available in one place with sizes 11+ in stock (not sure how I would assure this), then other women who share my plight wouldn't have to open 20 tabs and compare prices and shipping rates on all the different sites, only to end up frustrated and shoeless. I might not even have to review all the products myself, but could create content on new styles that come in. This might be similar to the snack helmet idea in that it would basically be a place to organize all the products in one place, although not as micro. I'm really passionate about helping other women with bigger feet find elegant shoes that reflect their style, since I know how disheartening shoe shopping can be. I'm not sure if I would go with all styles of shoes, or further narrow it down, or if I went with all styles focus just on shoes that ship to Canada?

I realized this is pretty long - apologies for the ramble. I have no online marketing experience so a lot of "how would I even do that?" or "is that even a thing?" questions are coming up for me.

Any input is appreciated! Really enjoying the training so far, as it has spurred my creativity and I'm excited to put one of my ideas into action.
Reply
Kyle Premium
Your niche ideas are definitely viable directions for your niche. You need to choose one when starting out, what are you most passionate about?

When deciding on a niche and trying to narrow down to a more specific niche, I recommend you ask yourself the following question:

I want to help people that ______________.

Fill in the blank and you are going to be much closer to a specific audience. After you do this and if you want to run any further ideas by me, let me know and I will give you a hand. :)

As I expected, the topic of choosing a niche brought up some questions for me.

I'm finding it the most difficult part so far for sure, and perhaps I'm overthinking it. I'm thinking about a website for natural sleep remedies since I struggled with bad insomnia for 4 years so know quite a bit about it, and there would be a lot of opportunity for affiliate marketing if I had a database of products I reviewed, like herbal supplements, weighted blankets, etc, similar to the pre-workout website in the training video. I also have a MSc in clinical psychology, so my background is somewhat related. On the other hand, it seems like a pretty big undertaking for a first website.

Another idea I had was to have a website for non-toxic beauty products, since it's something I've become more aware of and am interested in, but then I'd probably have to buy a lot to review?

Ideally I want to start off small and simple. Any suggestions are appreciated :)
Reply
amedu Premium
I think both are great ideas. I don't see the Natural sleep remedies niche as a huge undertaking for a first website. There's a ton of people looking for natural solutions to their insomnia, there are lots of products you could promote, and you seem to be well versed on the topic.

Now, that's not to say it's a better niche than non-toxic beauty products. They're both solid niches. The question you need to ask yourself is which one you're more passionate about and can consistently create content around.
Reply
kirstenerika Premium
Thanks for the feedback! Do you review products you haven't tried? Although I've tried a ton in the sleep arena, there are a lot I haven't tried. I also thought it could potentially be a collective review space (with time) like the pre-workout supplement site in the training video.

I'm thinking of leaving non-toxic beauty for now - it could also eventually fall under a larger niche of eco-friendly living?

I thought of a third option today too - a site with women's shoes in large sizes (lol). I'm size 11, and it's been a nightmare finding shoes online. I thought if I could make a website that displays shoes in sizes 11+, women in my situation wouldn't have to scour all over the internet and open 20 tabs only to come out of it shoeless. I remember you had some clothing examples on The Opportunity Scout so I would be curious to hear your thoughts.
Reply
amedu Premium
Yes, you can review products you haven't tried. On The Opportunity Scout, I make it clear that even though I haven't tried some of the products/opportunities, I know enough to make informed observations. If you're willing to learn and give objective analysis on products, I don't see why you need to restrict yourself to only products you have tried.

On your third idea, someone here in WA (@Wendyjane) built this site: https://thetallgirlsguidetofashion.com/ and had success with it. You can draw some inspiration from it if you decide to go this direction.
Reply
kirstenerika Premium
Thanks for the sound advice. That makes sense. I've done countless hours of research and have probably spent $1000s over the years trying different products and services for insomnia, so that makes sense. I also have a background in research, so I'm always looking to provide an objective stance.

It's great to see other examples of people who have had success. I was thinking more of a store front, where the images of shoes in larger sizes are all displayed, categorized by style, and you can compare prices all in one place. I just like saving time and being able to make the most informed choice. Is that a thing, an affiliate store front, similar to the snack helmets?
Reply
amedu Premium
I wouldn't do a storefront for a start. Jay was able to accomplish that because he's very proficient at keyword research. Football Snack Helmets literally had zero competition.

But as you get your hands dirty in online marketing, some of these things will become natural to you. At that point, having a storefront becomes a viable option.
