Why I joined WA and What I've Accomplished
I've been primarily a SAHM for the past several years, and have supplemented my husband's income by tutoring, teaching Music Together classes, and working as an adjunct professor for a university (can you tell I love to teach?). i love all of the work that I do, but my salary is a small fraction of what I made when I was a teacher (pre-children).
So I joined WA a few weeks ago, and since I am just starting out, I don't have high immediate expectations, but I would like to start seeing a bit or revenue from my affiliate links. I know a little about a lot of things, but there are some things I know really well: special education, dyslexia, child-rearing, cloth diapering, health, cooking.... and I decided to start out with cloth diapering as my niche.
Thus far, I have set up my website, created some posts and pages, added some affiliate links to my website, and created a G+ account for my website. I was notified last week that my website was indexed in Google (is that a big thing? Not sure, so if it is or isn't, please let me know!).
My website is a work-in-progress, but I plan on adding more content throughout the new few weeks (not so easy to do when two little ones need me every few minutes).
I'm curious to know what drove others to affiliate marketing. Share your story. :)

Index in Google is a great start!! Congratulations. And you had done much for your website. I have not even added affiliate link in my website. I was happy because one of my post appear in page one google search. I did not expected it that fast. So the training is really work!! Good luck for all your endeavours.
Hello,
Having your website indexed in Google is a BIG thing. That is what you want. Google can now send traffic to your site based on what is typed in the search box. You should start seeing this type of activity when you review your Google Analytics account for your website.
The next is your niche. As long as you can find products to sell for it, then go for it. That is what I did and I earned my first commission for it.
This is niche is something you know about, you can write excellent content about it. Since you have the Social Media already set, you can send a blog post to your circle of friends and include a link to the website page where they can review your content and maybe even purchase.
The reason why I am a member of Wealthy Affiliate is it was the only online marketing company that did not demand lots of money up front like the others do. I lost my job in 2009 and found WA just by accident. I am glad that I went to premium after one week.
I did not receive my first commission until 9 months after I joined WA. However, you may get yours quicker as there was not all of the courses that there are now when I joined in 2009.
Here are some tips:
1. Stay focused. Don't give up.
2. Have a plan in place and keep at it.
3. If you are working, allot a specific number of hours each week that you will work on your website.
4. Always, always, when you write any content, make it unique and the best. Better then your competition.
5. Don't worry about backlinks.
6. Put 5PM Pacific time on your calendar and watch Jay's weekly Webinars. I have learned a lot from these weekly presentations.
You will become a successful online marketer. Good luck!

Hi George,
Thanks for sharing your reason for joining WA, and for your advice! I love reading about others' stories, and how even though it may have taken months to get going, they persevered. Definitely motivating!
