Mini-devotion for Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, Genesis 12:1-5, KJV, "Now the Lord had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee; And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed. So Abram departed, as the Lord had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran. And Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother's son, and all their substance that they had gathered, and the souls that they had gotten in Haran; and they went forth to go into the land of Canaan; and into the land of Canaan they came." When Abram was 75 years old, God spoke to him and told him to leave his country and his family. God told Abram to go unto a land that I will shew thee." If God came to you today and said, "I want you to leave your home and go somewhere else," what would you do? "Where do you want me to go, Lord?," you might ask. "Don't worry about that right now," God would reply. "I will lead you, and I'll let you know when you get there." "Just a minute, Lord," you reply. "I have to get my compass. I don't want to get lost." One thing I've never been able to figure out. God told Abram to leave his family and Abram didn't hesitate to leave. But his nephew, Lot, managed to make the trip with him. God told Abram that he would be great and that he would be a blessing. As Christians, we are the children of God, the blessed of the Lord, but He blesses us to be a blessing to others. Today, may God help us to bless others and in so doing, bless the name of the Lord.
