Yearly Upgrade costing me Foreign Transaction Fee

I upgraded to yearly WA subscription last month (November) so today I was checking my credit card activities and Lo and behold I see a foreign transaction fee of the amount of $10.50. Furious that I have a fraudulent charge, I called my credit card company.

They kindly told me that i had a foreign transaction by the name of wealthy affliate. So since a transaction done outside US will have a "Foreign Transaction Fee" charged to me by them. Nice hah!

I informed them this company is US based and they said if wealthy affiliate informs them so they will definately remove the charge .

So I pm both Kyle & Carson and still waiting for some response. Meanwhile I wonder if any one had a similar experience. Would like to know what happened then. I just hope they will resolve this issue.

Thanks for reading.

I was charged .19 for the first payment on my upgrade and .47 for the second payment. Thanks to your post and follow-up discussion I can see now what happened. Still stinks. If I understand correctly, using Pay Pal avoids any extra fees?

I had no idea either. Thanks for posting this. I'm going to make note to update my site and encourage people to use PayPal to avoid the extra fees.

I had a $2+ and a $10+ charge on my credit card. Had no idea WA was not in the USA.

Well, both Carson and Kyle replied back. They are Canadian based. So next time i ve decided to use my paypal and save some $$! Good luck!

As Ken (@kws123) said below, WA is based in Canada, not the USA. PayPal and some debit, credit cards, pre-paid cards, etc. don't apply a foreign transaction fee but unfortunately many of them do and some of them use exchange rates that aren't even close to the actual "real" rate. It's just another example of banks ripping of their customers. Rich.

Thanks for the info. Atleast in the near future I would be wiser on what type of payment to use.

Yes, I was had a $2.00 Foreign Transaction Fee charge on my credit card statement. Please keep me in the loop!

Not sure but I think WA is canadian based

I paid by PayPal and had no such problem.

Yes I used PayPal for the first month too but used d cc for the yearly but as PayPal didn't charge a transaction fee I was caught by surprise. But I wish Kyle & Carson would mention where WA is based clearly in their "About us" pg. So far a lesson learnt.
